Rear Ended in Traffic

Featured Replies

Mk2 Octavia vRS Pre-Facelift

Hit from behind in traffic; nothing major. Somehow there appears to be no marks or anything whatsoever; except for a smashed rear reflector on the left hand side of the bumper.

Can these be bought and fitted separately? Hoping it's not one of those amazing designs which requires a whole new bumper!

Thanks for any info.

I hope for you it's not.

My dad's got a Nissan qashqai, broken rear reflector, went to a garage "Sorry Sir, they come all in 1 not seperately, that'll be £650 incl lab".

You should have seen his face :-)

Available seperately. I think these are the correct part numbers

Thanks for the response guys; that must have been a nightmare for your dad. I'd probably want to cry!

Luckily they are sold separately for £16.82 each. Just ordered two new ones from Skoda; can't have one new and one old in case they look different shades due to aging!

Thanks Lee01 - Those part numbers were bang on the money.

The guy in parts also told me how to remove the reflectors and how to re-fit them. Top service!

I was under the impression that you had to smash the reflectors off. Otherwise it's a case of removing the bumper to get access to unclip them.

The parts guy at Skoda suggested the following (he stated he had done them recently of a FL vRS):

- Using a flat plastic edge; prise the reflector from the centre section (where they clip - I think he said there may be a chance they'll break on removal).

- Slide new reflector on to the centre of the reflector location and clip down from the middle to the outside edges.

Hopefully it'll work - As I'm replacing broken ones already I'm not majorly fussed about breaking them. However; if you're doing it as a cleaning exercise be careful; unless you are happy to buy new ones!

Plastic bumpers are very good a disguising damage, they pop back out and everything looks OK.

Hope this is not the case with yours but worth getting it checked over carefully.

As said above, I would take the car to bodyshop to get them to check it for any damage behind the bumper.

+1, get it checked out, flexible bumpers hide all sorts of sins!

Can you still get the spare wheel out of the wheel well?

This guy had to smash his to get them off...

She was behind me stationary and appears to have somehow hit me. Whether she rolled off too fast etc I'm not sure.

I thought I'd stalled the car at first. Hopefully nothing big.
