Driver side door switch problem...

Featured Replies

Have noticed over the past week that if i unlock my Fabia and get in but dont turn the ignition on very quickly that the car will lock again and re-arm the alarm. I've done a few tests and it looks like the "feature" that looks the car again if you don't open the door is coming in to play, but only on the drivers door. If i open/close any other door it will not re-lock itself after the 20 or so seconds, it stays unlocked. But if i open and close the driver door after 20 seconds or so it will re-lock and re-arm the alarm as if i didn't open the door at all...

I'm assuming this means the switch that detects whether or not the door is open/closed is messed up, anyone have any ideas? On previous cars this used to just be a little pin type switch but no such luck here!

Many thanks.

I was reading on some sites about bad solder joints that can be re-done, worth a go do you think?

It's usually the microswitch that falls to pieces.

These are common symptoms...

Lights-on warning does not operate.

Doors lock themselves unless key in ignition or another door with functioning switch opened before 30 secs.

Boot sometimes does not open with finger switch unless another door with working switch is opened first.

Interior light does not come on when driver's door opened (it will still work via remote key fob or by using the key).

Alright well i'm pretty handy and would rather pay a tenner than £80ish for a new unit, is it just a case of unsoldering the old one and replacing it/resoldering it? Is the one you ordered the same size etc?
