did they change something on the engine?

The car I needs to comply with euro emission's 4.

how many variations of the 1.9 tdi is there available in the Octavia. ie bhp

Over time things will have been tweaked to reduce the CO2 emissions, gear ratios, EGR etc.

1.9 TDI in the mk2 will all be 105PS.

Engine codes through the life of the Octavia for the 1.9 are  BJB, BKC, BXE, BLS

Wow. Thank you for a speedy reply.

So am I right in saying none of them have a DPF fitted?

Correct.

No 1.9 TDI in a Skoda, in the UK at least was ever fitted with a DPF.

Was that version ever sold in the UK?  ISTR that it wasn't.

The only references I can find on here to the 1.9 BLS engine in Octavias seem to be from owners in Scandinavia.
