New Fabia MKII VRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! Been lurking around the last few days and picked up my Fabia yesterday. The car is feels like a 50/50 mix of two of my favorite previous cars - a Honda Jazz Sport CVT and an Subaru Impreza Diesel. Got a bit of a bargain as its only 18 months old with 3000 miles on the clock. DSG box is impressive as is the speed it will kick out in sport mode. Only the one picture so far (and certainly not a great one) but here she is:

Currently sitting on 18" OZ Racing super turismos which will have to go I think, no noticeable rubbing but the ride is somewhat harsh - although coming from a Twingo RS Cup (which I kept for less than 3 months) its still an improvement. They are nice alloys but may get put up in the swaps/for sale section quite soon.

Thanks for all the info I've already snatched from the forums :D

Wheels are in the swap section now. Th3Grinch: what wheels do you have, 17" Zeniths?

The vRS Standard wheels they come with are 17" Gigaro.

Black, White, Silver or Dark Chrome.

If you are swapping for better comfort from the 17's with 205/ 40 R 17 tyres,

(215/40 R 17 are fine on a vRS, but not the standard fit like they are on the Ibiza, Polo & A1 Twinchargers.)

i would go drive one first on the standard wheel/ tyres before changing,

because i suspect they will not feel any better than your 215/35 R 18.

I take it your car is already on lowering Springs.

(they could be Dealer Fit Options, or DIY fitted if it has lower than standard on.)

If you 'steering assistance' with the 215's need adjusted, you can do that with VAGCOM.

(It is maybe worth checking if it is still on the Factory Setting,

the same with 'Brake Assistance', & importantly the 'XDS' setting.)

I'm not sure if its on lowering springs - here's a better photo:

I've read that 17" is the safe limit and 18" can bring troubles, although everything seems okay at the moment. I dont know what the previous owner has done to the car but it is in very good condition.

I also wanted to lower the car which I assume would be easier to do on 17" rims - is this the case or could it still be done on the OZs?

Thanks for the help.

Just had a look on the size calc - the size knocks my speedo out by 2.3%.

I work in cemeteries and crematoriums, the white Renault Twingo I had before this just didn't fit the job.

Do not take the Size Calculators to literally,

The Scores on the doors do not tell the full story.

You can get a 205 /40 R 17 Pirelli that is much bigger than a 205 /40 R17 Dunlop.

Even the save Total Diameter as a 215/40 R 17 Dunlop.

The Standard size on the Audi A1 Sport Competition is 215/40 R18 and i have had them on a Fabia MK2 vRS.

So you need to compare different tyres from Manufacturers side by side to compare sizes.

215 is the width of the tyre, not necessarily the Tread.

& a Tyre with Rim Protection can measure wide but not have a Wide Tread on the road.

that is 215/35 18 on the A1 (122 bhp).

sorry for the Typo

This has given the car a name - "The Ferryman".

Thought about Charon but when saying it out loud its too much like Karen or Sharon.... dosnt quite have the gravitas Im looking for.

Keep an eye on the oil consumption. I'm on to my 5th engine due to oil consumption issues. Other than that they are fun to drive when you get the chance
