Xenons steamed up?

Featured Replies

I'm assuming the condensation on my Xenons is an issue? Had my Superb since April, and this week is the first really heavy rain we've had. Parked up today and noticed the bottom of both headlamps have condensation on the inside. Lights were on before I stopped.

In for a service this Friday - warranty job?

It's perfectly normal and in the manual.

The headlights have a breather tube on the back inside the engine bay to let moisture escape.

The problem is during prolonged wet weather and if driving through standing water or deep puddles is that moisture can also enter the headlights through these tubes.

Keep an eye on it, as long as the misting doesn't turn into droplets of condensation you will be OK. Too much moisture over longer periods of time can cause issues with the bi-xenon ballasts, bulbs, ingnitors, motors and connectors related to corrosion.

Drive with your headlights on as much as you can - this should dry them out.

I noticed this on my 3 day old superb. Dealer said it's was perfectly normal.

Warranty states condensation normal and not a warrantable item but if water droplets are present as previously mentioned and after a period of time after the headlamps have been on then we have to take photos as proof and fit new (photos are taken because as you could imagine if we fit new lamps and send them back to skoda the lamps have naturally dried out the claim could be rejected)

OK thanks. Useful to know, will keep an eye on it.

My Exeo and Leon did the same... If I remember correct my 2003 Leon did the same as well so the dealer changed the headlamps under warranty, only for it to do it again... Seat then released a "modification" they had to drill a small hole in the bottom of each lamp... seemed to cure it... I suppose this is the same as the Superb drain tube..

Strangely enough i noticed both mine had misted up inside earlier today what with the wet weather these last couple of days. Both are just misted though rather than proper water droplets etc.... Glad it's a "normal" thing then. :)
