My friend's Octavia vRS has developed an issue...engine likes to rev oddly when the wipers are turned on and the car will sometimes stall too.

Today when starting from cold, and with the wipers on, the revs gradually increased with each wipe until 3000/3500rpm at which point the wipers were turned off. It's as if the wipers are linked to the accelerator pedal. Car sometimes revs randomly with wipers off as well.

Also seems to be a loss of boost after the engine management illuminated. It is going to the garage next week to get looked at but does anyone have any idea what might be causing it?

Getting the car scanned will give you a good idea of where the issues lies.

 

It's either an electrical fault somewhere, bad earth etc. or the battery is on it's last legs and the power draw required to power the wipers is loading the alternator.

 

I once had a battery so flat that when I flashed my main beam to let a lorry pull in the car would misfire! No amount of charging was bringing this battery back from the dead!

Thanks. Took it to the garage, apparently there are six different fault codes and they're not sure what the issue could be. Doesn't seem to be limited to the wipers...car also does the same thing when stationary and on tick over with no wipers on...but not all the time. Problem seems to come and go. Nightmare...

Ask the garage for the fault codes and post them here.
