Linkage reset nightmare

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Could really do with some assistance here. I went to reset my gear linkages today and all went well until it came to getting the gearbox out of the locked position. I can move the locking pin to the unlocked position but it doesn't actually unlock and the gear stick doesn't move at all.

I'm worrier I'll break the pin if I force it. Can anyone please offer any suggestions? I've got a 100 mile trip early tomorrow :(

The panic is over, managed to get it unlocked by wiggling it and pushing it around a bit. Shifting is now silky smooth :)

:D Good stuff.

I actually noticed that the gearbox wasn't in the fully unlocked position before; it was left at around the 10 o'clock position rather than 9. Would that explain why the gear changes were so notchy and reverse being difficult to engage? It feels so different to drive in a good way :)

It's a common thing to do once the car has some miles on it, it's possible someone has tried it before and made it worse.
