Bought my first Skoda at the end of September - a 53 plate Octavia vRS.

I was planning on buying something sensible (Volvo S60 D5) as I had a C70 T5 convertible and a Passat Syncro estate - but somehow got pointed towards the VAG 1.8T engine, and ended up with the Octavia over the Golf / A3 / Cupra / TT , being 39 buying a Skoda wasn't very easy as I still remember the Estelle.  

 

The car has had a few modifications done already: there's a stainless steel exhaust with sports cat, front mounted intercooler, dump valve and had a stage one re-map.  Annoyingly there's only partial receipts but there's a receipt for a new turbo at £450+ VAT (Total bill over £800) in March 2012, stage one re-map at the beginning of April and at the end of April there's another receipt for £250+ VAT for a 'warranty part exchange turbo'... So not sure what turbo it's running.  There's no invoice for the exhaust or FMIC so no idea if it was being prepared for a stage 2 or if it's already had it.

 

Not long after I picked it up (literally the next day), it started creaking at low speed and if I went over a speed bump a bit too fast, it sounded like the front end was hitting the floor.

On Monday, a full two weeks of ownership, I went over a small speed bump going off my estate, heard a ching and saw a trail of liquid behind me - oil ! my mechanic mate picked the car up the other day and it turns out that somebody who did something / one of the mods, didn't re-attach the offside engine mount properly so that had given way, snapping the bolt inside it.  That would have been the creaking and it had dropped enough for the sump to catch on speed bumps until it had one too many and chipped the corner off... :(

 

I'm guessing that the mounts and sump pans are standard throughout the MK1 Octavia and there'll be little chance of me ordering the wrong ones? as I've seen a pan for £35 (new) and mount for £15 (off a breaker) on eBay. 

 

Once it's finally back on the road I want to do a few more mods but nothing too extreme.  Would rather keep it looking like a sleeper than making it too obvious that it isn't standard; would like to lower it to start but It's impossible to avoid speed bumps where I am.  Also want to fit new seats as I'm not a massive fan of the black and whites............ So I'll no doubt be asking plenty of questions.
