SPECIAL OFFER ON CAMBELT CHANGES

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm was looking to do a cambelt change on my newly bought Octavia vrs 2.0t as it is way over the recommended change period. I've been shopping around and I had 3 options. The prices are inclusive of the water pump.

1. Get it done at a local vw specialist with one year warranty. £289

2. Get the parts yourself and get it done by a local Vw specialist but you get 2 year warranty on just parts. £300

3. Skoda dealers with parts and labour with 2 Years warranty on all the work done. £459

I decided that the 3rd option would be the best as it's an important job and that I would want some sort of fallback if something went wrong.

I rang our local Skoda in Wakefield up and mentioned that VW are doing a special offer for £349 for a cambelt change including the water pump and guess what they price matched it for me! So it's no brainer for that price. Anyone looking to do a cambelt change I suggest you ring your local Skoda and ask for the price match.

Where is the VW special offer advertised?

Their fixed price scheme also offers a cambelt change for £349 but there is no mention of this including the water pump.

For a Skoda dealer to price match they'll need evidence...

I had my belt done on my VRS 2.0 Diesel at a local garage  , changed the water pump , cam belt , Thermostat, 4 wheel tracking, 1 puntucre repair  £230 :-)

"Oh, and I'm sure the 2.0 TSi petrol engine has a timing chain, not a cambelt... "

the lad didn't mention TSI he says 2.0T so I presume he must have the early TFSi engine decent price tho 350 off a main dealer

Yes it's the 2.0T FSI. 2007 Model. The offer is on the VW website somewhere I've seen it on hot uk deals. I asked the guy at Skoda and he found the offer on the VW website so its £50 extra for the water pump so its £350 and he said he'll price match it. I just need to book it now :)

They don't need any evidence they've told me that they'll do it for me for that price.

Thanks for the info Kiko1. I called Skoda in Doncaster and they said they can give me a better price 420. Original price 459  (cambelt, waterpump). After it I called VW Doncaster. The service manager has confirmed that they can service my Skoda for 349 (cambelt, waterpump). I have called back Skoda Doncaster and asked for a price match. They will call me back. So we will see. If they give me the same price I will service it in Skoda if not Iam going to VW.

Have called my local dealer in Portsmouth about their £349 offer for cambelt and water pump, but they said they WON'T do a Skoda as they are no longer anything to with VW and they couldn't warranty the work??

If they no longer have the VW franchise then that is fair enough. There must be another local VW garage that will honour the deal?

Chichester VW are the same as Portsmouth VW (Peter Cooper), and said they won't do a Skoda either.

Ok. Just a small update after a few phone calls with VW and Skoda. The Skoda dealer called me back after that he realised that I want to book in my car to a VW dealer. They offered me a price 410 inc VAT and I was explained that VW 349 price doesnt include the tensioners. After this I called the central VW to get confirmation if the price includes the tensioners or not. They said yes, it is included. Than called again VW Hayselden in Doncaster to book in my Skoda car for 349 and just for sure I asked about the tensioners. I was speaking with the service manager who confirmed, that the tensioners are not included. They will just inspect them and if they need to change them than it will be 100-120 more. After speaking with him for about 5 mins he wasnt sure if a Skoda car can qualify for this discount, because this discount was offered just for VW cars. I definitely want to change the tensioners as well, so in this case the service will be for the same price as Skodas original price - 459. So only thing i was able to get it was a a better price 410 from skoda. So I think I will go ahead and book in my car for the service. Sorry for my poor English...

Ok. I'm not sure about the tensioners because I didn't ask about it. Do I need to ask about it too as I have MK2 VRS TFSI?

I am amazed that VW would change a belt and not the tensioners.

A genuine Skoda cambelt kit includes everything, the belt, rollers, tensioners and stretch bolts.

It seems the Skoda price (£349 + £100 for the waterpump) is actually quite reasonable.

They said to me that its not included in the price. They will check it and if it needs change it will be an additional cost around 120. So its around the original price. And i think its better to change it.

I have just rang DM KEITH SKODA in Wakefield just to make sure that everything is included in the special offer price of £349 and they said the pulleys, tensioners, water pump and coolant is all included in the price and asked them again to make sure if there is any extra cost and he said there isn't. Everthing is included in the £349 price. I've booked it in for next Monday.

Good for you. The central VW office said this to me, too. And the dealer in Doncaster said that its not included. I have called DM Keith Skoda in Hull and York as well, and they didnt want to do a price match :) They said straight away that 469 is the best price and they cant lower it. Iam still happy with 410 and with a stamp in my service book from Skoda dealer. Still better than the original price.

Zoli. Yes that's true. It just depends on which dealer's will accept a price match. Maybe I just got lucky

Azur Skoda in Chichester won't pricematch VW either.  Azur price for my Octavia VRS is £459 inclusive of everything.

You should argue with them saying you'll use VW instead for £349 and see what they say.
