Insurance question

Featured Replies

Renewal is due in just over a month so ive been doing some shopping around getting quotes yada yada..

Now i work nights so 5 nights out of 7 my car is on the works carpark which has 20ft fences, security, cctv and gates that you need a keycard for. So i find it strange that quotes are £350 more expensive by declaring it parked there overnight. Its not even in a crappy postcode. Strange eh

Not sure why that is. With us we'd just need to know about your home address. Can I offer you a quote?

You offered me one last year and my postcode wasnt the best for you guys.

Even so, I'd be happy to see if anything has changed this year and give you a price.

I've not known an insurance company interested in where the car is kept, apart from when it is at the owners address.

Exactly our approach.

I will give chrisknotts a call sometime during the week :)

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me your details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

It would need to be garaged for us to quote competitively.

I was shopping around on the internet last week for quotes and found that with one particular insurer (who are offering to beat my current renewal by £50), the premium was cheaper if I do 8000 miles a year rather than 7000.

Also, it was cheaper if the car was parked on the driveway overnight rather than in a locked garage!

When I queried why with the call centre lady, she said it was all down to statistics. Very odd I reckon.

Maybe they have had lots of claims from people scraping their cars getting them in and out of garages or lots of fire claims where it was the garage that burned. The mileage one is interesting - again they'll probably have stats that suggest there's a significant difference between those who drive more and those who don't drive as much, around that mileage mark.

5 nights a week its in a secure carpark.

I think when i got a quote last year it needed to be garaged. Shame

As I think I said before, it's where the car is parked when at home that is important. Sorry we can't help you :(

No problem. Most of the specialist insurers like yourself couldnt compete last year due to needing a garage overnight.

Do you know of a reason it would need garaging in my postcode?

I'm afraid the insurers don't reveal that much detail but I suspect it is about either a higher level of vandalism or theft in your area.

So my renewal came in at £881 with axa. It was £720 last year.

So they can suck my plums
