2010 Fabia 1.4 PDI Issues

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

First post as im sure many peoples are is because ni am having some issues with my car.

I have a 1.4 pdi fabia, its the £30 a year tax model (not the greenline).

Me and my wife bought it after having several octavia cars. We needed a smaller car now the kids have grown up a bit, but we still needed practicability/style and mostly reliability.

We bought the car with 60k miles on it, it had a comprehensive history with it and was in very good order besides a scuff on the rear bumper. We negotiated a smart repair into the deal and myself and my wife felt we had a great deal in place.

We had the car delivered and things werent as they where supposed to be with regards the rear bumper and a few other bits. However that is a whole different story. After 24 hours we went to start the car and it was just turning over on the battery but not firing. After looking under the bonnet the problem was clear to see. The expansion tank had 3-4 inches of oil in it alone. Baring in mind this is a 60k mile car. We where astounded, we put it down to bad luck and contacted the place we bought it from.

We had an absolute nightmare with the dealer, but again thats not really the issue. After 4 weeks we got our car back. It has had a new head gasket/injector seals(christ only knows why) and all new belts and fluids etc. Aside from it came back and they hadnt flushed the coolant system properly and had not put anti freeze in it. The car is running fine from what i can see. However the car feels like it has less power than previous and the economy has gone out fo the window. The first day we had it i took the car to work (50 mile round trip) and we had a few outings in the car. All told we did 95 miles. Over the 95 miles i achieved 63mpg and the car was powerful (for a 1.4 at least) and droive well. Which im surprised about since it obviously had issues.

Now however i do the same journey every day (50 miles b road and motoryway only) so 50-70 MPH roads. I cannot get above 50-52 mpg with the lightest of feet. At 65-70 to achieve any more than 48-52mpg the speed is going down as im not giving it enough throttle. Any more throttle and the car is doing sub 48mpg. Added to economy issue is the fact that it feels so gutless now, very little in the way of turbo shove.

Could it be that previously the car has been mapped and now the dealership has somehow reset it with the work done?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks Mike

Was it a Skoda Dealer you bought it from.

I would send it back and ask them to a rolling road run to test the power and also maybe take a car identical on a test drive to compare.

Unfortunately it wasn't a Skoda dealership, It was a a very large used car dealer. I am considering a visit to my local skoda dealer to see what they say.

Hi,

I have the same model, 2010 59 plate.

Im not sure about whether the previous issues have caused this, but hopefully others will be along soon - 'estate man' is an ex tech and very knowledgeable on these engines.

If I was to do your commute I'd easily achieve 60mpg and above. Mine has dipped somewhat giving the colder mornings though. In respect of the car feeling gutless, the 1.4pd is anything but, especially just after engaging second gear (first gear is gutless). If your not feeling a definite pull around 3k rpm then there may be an issue.

What fuel do you use? Supermarket or know brand ie shell etc. Supermarket fuel had a very negative feel on my cars responsiveness. May need a good run on some decent fuel with some millers additive.
