I ordered an Octavia III last week and as it happens, SmartGate appeared on the options list on the day we were making the decision. So we thought we'd add it to the list, since it was only 90€.

 

I know very little about it, just what I've read from a few articles (for example) but not much more. Basically it appears to be a Wi-Fi share point within the car that enables you to access car functions on a smartphone.

 

As far as I know there are only two apps available as of now, one for checking fuel consumption related statistics and one for displaying g-forces etc. while driving.

 

Have any of you heard of any apps/functions coming in the future?

 

And second, what kind of functions would you like to see added to it?

Maybe the same applications as for VW Car-Net. When the new manuals 2014/11 for Fabia, Octavia and Yeti are published, then we'll see.

What I'd really love is the ability to set the auxiliary heater activation time with a smartphone.
