Trying to Understand Apple CarPlay and Skoda Amundsen together

Featured Replies

Hello. I have a 2021 Karoq model with Amundsen and I also have the factory-installed wireless CarPlay option, and I have a few questions about it.

I've had the car for a few months, during which I've mostly used wireless CarPlay, but I've noticed something annoying – sometimes the connection "drops" (even when connected via cable) and it causes interruptions in music and navigation – there are moments when it happens 10 times in 3 minutes, and other times when it doesn't happen at all for weeks.

The head unit is up to date, initially with service help, but later through the Infotainment Online subscription (I think) or Care Connect.

With music it's somewhat manageable, but with navigation I've had a few instances, in Bulgaria but not only, where it left me "stranded", while driving fast and waiting for an exit off the highway – and that's not exactly pleasant.

Do you have any idea if something can be done?

Also, with the new iOS 26, Apple added 2 options that I was interested in and that don't seem to work for me:

  • multitouch – tested and it doesn't work on Waze, Apple Maps or Google Maps, although it works perfectly on the car's built-in navigation;

  • ViM – Video in motion – which I don't care to work while driving, just when I'm parked (sometimes I have to wait up to 1 hour while my child finishes training). Somebody activated this feature for me (not sure if system-wide or just on Android) and yet I still can't stream to the car when watching something on my phone.

Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong or if there's some limitation from Skoda, that it doesn't support these features yet?

And one more question regarding GPS – why, when I'm connected via CarPlay, can't I use the car's navigation with the car's GPS on the digital display, and Waze with the phone's GPS on the navigation screen? It would seem logical for both to work and use their own GPS.

On multi-touch: Google Maps is gradually updating its app to introduce the necessary support. Waze may support it in a future release but doesn't do so at present. So your experience with those is what one would expect: you'll just have to wait. Apple Maps, however, claims to offer full support on iOS 26 CarPlay, so it's unclear why that is not working.

While I don't have standard Wireless Carplay or Android Auto in mine, I use a 3rd party adapter, namely Carlinkit 4.0.

Out of all the VAG cars that I used with wireless connection (hire or company), the connection was hit and miss. Sometimes working for weeks, then failing multiple times in one journey.

With this specific adapter, Android Auto is working most of the time, a quick unplug-replug would solve any issues, Carplay works almost every time. It Carplay framework to get Android Auto working, so even if you use an Android phone, it would show up as Carplay on the car.

I don't think it's anything to do with your specific unit, it's just the way the connection works.

On my commute, there's a specific bridge that I cross, the music skips every time when I drive over it, Android Auto or Carplay, no matter what but only on wireless.

Yes, i found some similar places where every time i pass, the music pause/freezes for about 1-2 seconds - not really sure why.

The thing is that the connection does not work like that - the BT connection that is - especially when the phone is located 20cm distance from the stereo and there is no other interference.
