Dimensions?

Featured Replies

Anyone seen front, side, rear and top plans with a full set of dimensions? I know the width is up 90mm, but I need to know if I can still wriggle one into my small garage!

the dimensions are on the CZ site I think ,

http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/new-fabia/technology

at the bottom of the page and a slider to show the different views

Thanks, that is just what I needed. Looks like I would need to move my garage walls. It seems that Skoda, like other manufacturers, is now going for wide haunches while keeping the windows the same distance apart. That makes parking and passing in narrow lanes more difficult. I was happy with the width of the previous Fabias.

One reason we will be in no rush to replace the current Monte, the new cars increased waist line; Fabia III is now wider than our Spaceback :S

I have been comparing the dimensions of the Mk1 and the Mk3. It seems the door thickness and the wheel arch overhang are the main cause of the increase in overall size. The mirror positions would appear to be wrong on the rear view, by the way.) Dimensions in mm Mk3 (Mk1):

Total width of bodywork: 1732 (1646), up 86

Front wheel track: 1463 (1435), up 28

Rear wheel track: 1457 (1424), up 33

So the arches extend, on average, an extra 27.5 beyond the tyres each side? Wasted space, it would appear. (The tyres are not 55 mm wider.)

Now compare the internal dimensions:

Front: 1401 (1380), up 21

Rear: 1386 (1392), down 6

Boot: 960 (974), down 14

So the door thickness has increased, on average, by 38? More wasted space?

The overal length is 22 longer, with the wheelbase being just 8 longer. Not much difference there. Overall there seems to be little, if any, gain in space over the Mk1. Maybe a re-issue of the Mk1 would have been a good idea. I would buy one! I always maintained that the Mk1 was, on balance, a better car than the Mk2.

Every manufacturer increases the depth of doors as new models come along. I think this is due to increasing levels of crash protection required by the EU over time.

Maybe, but this has only happened with the Mk3. Compare the change of the Mk2 from the Mk1:

Dimensions in mm Mk2 (Mk1):

Total width of bodywork: 1642 (1646), down 4

Front wheel track: 1433 (1435), down 2

Rear wheel track: 1426 (1424), up 2

The arches contracted, on average, 2 towards the tyres each side.

Now compare the internal dimensions:

Front: 1380 (1380), same

Rear: 1384 (1392), down 2

Boot: 958 (974), down 16

The door thickness has not increased, on average, at all.

Just about Audi A1 & Polo Mk5 FL Width, and they are on the same Platform.

The Tyre / wheel width / offset can change in the future if this Model is to have 7 years of Production.

The All New 3rd Generation Fabia is on Fabia MK2 Type Approval, & the Wheel / Tyre sizes from that.

& there is possibly a 'Outdoor' (Scout) model coming,  Monte Carlo,

& possibly even a 'Warm / Hot Model.

So different tyres/wheels can be fitted, the All New Fabia might even end up with 'Motorsport Use', a Race Series like

with the Clio RS 200,  so a Body that meets Homologation needs.

(That is what the Audi A1 quattro & the S1 being available to the public was i think,

they look good in World Rally Cross & other Track stuff')

Not that far fetched really.

It might all depend on how well the Fabia R5 2015 gets on in Rallying.

It would be nice to see a All New Fabia that has proper Suspension Fitted from the likes of the Audi S1 2014

or Polo GTI 2015,

Proper Brakes and Engine / Gearboxes.

Maybe the doors are thicker to accomodate optional 12 inch loudspeakers? :)

Fair enough that the Wheel arches are wider, by such a small amount.

Tornado Line and Wide out door handles is the other measurement.

All to make it 'Squat' & 'Emotional',

liked they first described it until it dawned in Translation that might have the likes of me think 'Sh!te' & make you weep.

So how wide are they wing mirror to wing mirror,

because that is what usually gets hit first?

Mk1: 1890

Mk2: 1886

Mk3: 1958

Polo: 1901

For me, in my garage, I enter at an angle and one mirror goes in before the other. The body width and the curvature of the front bumper are the limiting factors for me.

Luckily for all those that did lot like the Tall Skinny Mk2 Fabias,

the 72 mm (2.8") extra width mirror tip to mirror tip is not going to be a deal breaker.

Hi there, hoping this is on-topic.

Has anyone measured the clear opening height for the Combi/Estate?

I'm interested in whether I can get a bike in without too much disassembly, and be held upright using something like the BikeInside system.

A bike can be stood upright in the back of the estate, there's a bike rack system which can be specced on the Configurator but the front wheel still has to removed.

I'm after an estate too but will probably still use my roof mounted racks, don't fancy sticking a couple of dirty bikes in the back using up all the space, I want the extra space for putting associated gear in and for getting changed if I need to.

As racing, oh well considering my old age - sporting :), bikes are my exercise and hobby I also ordered that rack, but I suspect that the only bikes you can get in there are low front racers - and with front wheels demounted as the forks are fastened in a quick-release clamp. Racers also are a bit shorter than common commuters, if that what you want to carry.

Time will show.

On the subject of dimensions. the Monte Carlo length = 4028mm, the standard = 3992mm, where is the extra 36mm on the Monte Carlo?

There is a gloss black rear diffuser that protrudes a couple of cm beyond the bumper, and a gloss black front spoiler that again protrudes slightly in front of the front bumper. I just posted a front and back shot of my new Monte Carlo on the Monte Carlo thread, those pics illustrate what I mean.
