Hi,still got problems with my 1999 octavia 1.9tdi.i changed the oil which was nearly black but still the same its really hard to engage gears but it doesnt do it all the time.on my car you cant adjust the cables i even took it to skoda main dealers who coulnt get a printout about it.there is a linkage on top of the gearbox which is worn(lots of movement in it)but cant get the part from anywhere any ideas guys.

Ok, it might be the linkage that's worn, but there is another possibility.

 

Did you use Sylkolene Syltrans gear oil? If so, I'm afraid that it doesn't work well with VAG boxes (although Sylkolene is otherwise excellent) so change the gear oil again and use a different brand.

 

Or it could be worn engine mounts, but you need to check those at your end.
