Will a U.S bought iphone 6 work fully I'm the UK?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm after a little advice. Will a new sealed off contract iPhone 6 bought in the US work in the UK, 4G and all? My understanding is that it will as long as I buy the unlocked version (that comes with a t mobile sim in the US). I know the 5s had issues with 4g due to the chip supporting slightly different bands but is the 6 hardware the same now, where ever you buy it? It's around £180 cheaper for the model I'm looking at so thought it worth a punt if so?

Should do, the only think I can say is check at your local Apple retails store for definitive advice.

Otherwise, suck it and see.  :notme:

I think at least one 4g band is missing.

The warranty is us only as well.

Yes, the US has a different 4G band so the phone will work but only 2G and 3G.

US Warranty is IIRC 3 months, but it'll need to be returned to the US if anything goes wrong.

Much better to buy a phone in the UK, or anywhere else in the EU as the phone and warranty is EU wide.

And what do you think they'll say when you ask 'will the iPhone 6 I'm planning buy elsewhere at a much lower price work in the UK?''

If you don't ask, you'll never find out ;)

thanks but that link is the same as posted above. :)

*the following info is for the iPhone 6/6+ NOT THE 5S.

Just incase anyone is in the same predicament as me - I can confirm that you need to buy a specific model in the US - A1549 GSM contract free t mobile version - this supports all the same bands as the uk iPhone 6 does. Ie its fully functional in the Uk, rest of Europe and USA. The T mobile bit is a marketing partnership and nothing more - its the fully unlocked version of the unit.

Also, the warranty on any apple US purchased mobile device (defined as 'can operate on battery power without mains input') is fully valid in the UK. Same period, same conditions of support. :)

As a bonus, I grabbed mine from a mall in Delaware. Being sales tax free it saved me an additional 5-8% :)

Who told you that the warranty is valid in the UK? They are incorrect.

its actually clearly stated on Apples web site, under worldwide warranty and two of the apple reps at the store confirmed this with me before purchase - absolutely no doubt in this. Also, the friend I'm travelling with has said its been like this for a number of years and as such has used uk service on a US bought MacBook :)

That's a rarity. Most warranties are region specific.

not in the case of apple products thankfully :)

Yep Apple is a world wide warranty as I found a few years ago when I bought my iPad from New York for about 100 quid less than here
