Clock Changes by 1 Hour, Lighting up time.

Featured Replies

I know it happens ever year, and we should be used to it.  Clock back an hour.

Only its 5.15 pm and very dark outside already, & its a game changer for the next few months,

rather mild, but rather dark.

? When does the Tennis Tournaments end and the Darts & Snooker Start?

Darts was on last night; I was looking forward to the usual Saturday night Bond film aswell :(

mmm.. clocks change and its dark before 6... bright again early, but tbh, i dont see the point swapping from Summer to winter time anymore....

Prett much everyone has electricity, and extra daylight after work would be more beneficial?

When i lived in Aberdeen, it was getting dark by 3pm during the winters!

but during summer was still kinda dusky when falling out of night clubs at 3am.. that was quite disorienting the few times :D

Thankfully the clock does change, because it is still dark-ish  in Aberdeen this morning,

but getting light now, (still only October)

and starting the day and work with at least some daylight is the reason for the change over.

Not great for anyone in the North when it is still dark and it is after 8.30-9.00 am.

Heading to Work, starting up Building sites, heading to School etc.

At least heading home in the Dark most people are fully awake and alert.

Unbelievable the number of Faulty Lights on cars here, and many prestige nearly new cars.

& DRL's,

Just DRL's on, no rear lights, just switch on the car, you know the lights come on automatically,

Not an ounce of common sense or thought on the fact it is Lighting up time

& not 'Daytime / Daylight' Running light time.

Exactly, it's the end of "get up an hour earlier, and change the clocks so you can pretend you're not time".

I agree totally, it annoys me so much when I see this - DRLs now seem to give people this false sense of security that they are perfectly visible at all times. I wonder if there is an increase in the number of rear end shunts at dusk/evening time since DRLs were introduced?? And don't get me started on parking lights

Do not get me started on Parking lights if they are Side Lights,

& not Parking Lights,

1 light on front and rear at the road side, when the car is parked & the ignition off.

Then there are those that park facing you on your side with Dipped Beam shining at you, or side lights on,

Taxi's and the likes are a PITTA.

My biggest gripe is those that stop like that. then are away to reverse into a drive, and the Cornering Fogs come on Automatically as they do it.

But those are Special Lights for some with Special Needs.

They say they are good in the very dark countryside, but then surely if there is no one in other vehicles they have Full Beam on anyway,

& if someone is there and they have Dipped Beam on, why shine a Fog Light willy nilly.

Tonights rant from me.

On my way back from south of France recently, on the Beaune to Dunkerque leg, it was belting it down. Most of us were using our headlights, with of course, the odd plonker, usually a Brit registered car, or Belgian, not noticing how much spray there was - perhaps in the over whelming gloom under the dark dark sky they couldn't see?

The most noticable vehicle, a newly registered uk KIA 4x4 thing stood out. Painted in a fitting camouflage black, and hideing behind its own personal cloud, and guess what? no rear lights of course.

Fortunately he had a shed load of those florescent "Baby On Board" dangly things, otherwise, I may have not have seen him.

I had a look as I moved back over after the overtake (he was going fairly slowly) I could see the DRL's on. Hopefully he just assumed he had some form of rear end illumination too. But headlamps would have been good.

To drift gently off topic, we stopped at a French service station. OMG! Why Oh Why don't we have services facilities like that. A pretty decent croissant considering, nice hot choccy for breakfast, and nice soup and roll for lunch. No, it wasn't so good we hung around, we just had them straight after one another, as we hadn't had brekky and weren't going to be "anywhere" at lunchtime. They even had a lunch time special, steck frites & trimmings for about €12. We were too early. Sadly.

Clean and tidy and not having to pay to use the clean, wholesome loos. Helpful and staff amicale. No noisy kids or gaming machines/piped music. Even had comfy seats and car parking conveniently outside, seeing how it was still raining.

My pet lighting hare is all the big sized 4x4's and Sprinter/Crafter vans.

I guess their head lamps are correctly adjusted, but they are at the height of my rear view mirror. Ouch!!

Holy seared eyeballs Batman!

And to think people complain about all the vicious criminals who have illegal HID's fitted.

I don't seem to have this issue but that's probably because my work van has no rear view mirror and the one on my octy is auto-dimming :)

Driving down the A158 at night is a pain though with the vehicles you describe driving towards me as the higher headlamps mean they destroy my night vision for a short period...

I get a little annoyed at people who flash me thinking I have main beam on in the berlingo though when I'm dipped (I always adjust the beam depending on load), the lights on the octy are brighter but closer to the road so I don't have the same issue

Not just yesterday's rant hey George ;)

I'd save your rant on cornering fogs until you've been behind rather than infront of them.

The one thing I really miss on my Superb, one thing I won't forget to spec next time round.

I have driven cars with Cornering Fogs & Cornering lights, there can be times and places for their use.

but i hardly see that as being in Street Light Lit Towns and Cities, and when Sidelight and dipped beam are doing their intended job, and a driver Putting 2 Front Fog lights on would be plain stupid,

but one or 2 coming on because they are enabled to seems to be OK.

and they can aid those that use them possibly if they have problems with their vision.

there are plenty out there with them and with no knowledge of what lights are on the vehicle they are driving and

care not a jot if they cause visibility issues to other road users,

& that is not only motorists.

Each to their own,

i like the fact that they give others a warning that there are possibly visually impaired  drivers around,

or possibly just unaware of the necessary lighting for the conditions or the location.

We know there are those that drive in places that are darker than all the other drivers seem to go to,

even though they are just the same roads.

Come on George, now is a perfect opportunity to label as those in favour of cornering lights as T-W-A-T... This Way And That 'Lights' :D

I couldn't believe it this evening on my commute home from work when I came across a car driving in an country road in total darkness, not even DRLs or side lights!! This was about 7.30pm so it completely dark and was clearly driving like this for some time. There was a car a few lengths in front so I can only assume the maniac driver was following the tail lights of the car in front! These are the kind of drivers that should be taken off the roads!
