vRS Timing Belt

Featured Replies

Need to get a timing belt for my 1.8T 2005.

I know I should change the hydraulic tensioner as well. I will be purchasing a genuine waterpump.

The genuine route is £160+ but I do know Gates and Continental do kits with tensioner with much less.

I am struggling to determine which kits are compatible with my car so can folks give me a decent link for timing belts?

can anyone help? There must be someone out there who has had this done in the last year

I believe gates is what vw use. I had mine done recently and the kit cost £117 from a local motorfactors

I've been using Gates for years, as do lots and lots of people in the trade. They're a bit of an 'industry standard' part - well tested and well trusted.

And as you say, the tensioner and water pump is a must.

Never had a issue with euro car parts before

I fitted genuine VAG parts when I did mine a few weeks back. Got the lot for £110 (trade price). Easy enough job :)

Fit Genuine parts ,no compromise on that

Gates are more than good enough, OEM have longer warranty,
