Key Fob Button Distance

Featured Replies

What is the normal range of the remote keyfob. I need to be 12" max away from drivers door before any button works. I have changed batteries in both keys and I have changed the actual alarm unit after it's internal NiCad burst.

My old Vauxhall key worked almost 10m away from the car which was handy when it was pi**in it down outside  :p .

My experience with VAG keyfobs is that they work up to about one hundred feet range. Which is pretty useless unless you have a friend closer to the car than you are, or you want to lock it, since it will re-lock before you reach it.

Point the key at your head and press the button when your over 12 feet away ....any better? For some reason it works and was a subject covered on brainiacs (the tv programme).

Octavia is about 25ft or so.

Wife's Audi TT is about the same

Fabia was about 50 yards......

Urm about half a mile for me haha just always seems to work I was about 12 car lengths away and worked no problem at all ran out of car park to keep trying

I have never had that distance with my Octavia. Where is the receiver and antenna for the fob folks.

I've managed 100-150ft by holding the fob to my head.

Have you tried pointing the remote at your head like you're going to commit harry carry and pressing the button? It's supposed to increase the range. Try it in the dark first though!

No supposed about it, it works -- and no I have no idea why.

Tried it pointing to SWMBOs head too, worked again, but folks might think I'm trying out a mute button......... :peek:

I wonder if you can get a gun disguised as a remote control for a Seat Altea......

I was told that I should never try to use the remote until I'm next to the car because using it from a distance can eventually muddle the locking & windows electronics. I used to use my remote from up to 50m away. One day I came back to the car and the windows had wound themsleves down. Another day I unlocked the car with the remote, got in and the alarm went off after a few minutes. I took advice and reset the locking electronics to factory settings using Maxi Dot. That was 3 years ago and I've had no problems since I started opening the car only when near it.
