The abbreviation vRS

What does it mean?

What does it mean?

RS = Renn Sport which is German for Motor racing. vRS = we couldn't use RS for the name as Ford & Porsche seem to have it copyrighted so we put a random letter in front of it. Not a very good explanation but probably true!

the vRS is only known as the vRS in the UK, elsewhere its known as the RS. Something to do with a Ford trademark.

the V stands for Victory, and the RS is as above.

As the above have said, it means Skoda don't get sued for infringing Ford's RS copyright. I know at the time they were introducing vRS versions, they did try and use the RS badge, but swiftly got told where to shove it by Ford.

There is an answer on here somewhere. Will need a bit of a search.

Something to do with the site of the factory I think ,as well as the above.

I read somewhere that the RS was as everyone had said and that the v symbolises the little character above the S on Skoda, can't be bothered trying to find it on my keyboard though.

Very Rude Skoda

Manny is the closest it is only uk skoda that after initial launch in this country of the Octavia RS had to come up with the altenative vRS model description for the UK as Ford UK have the Rallye Sport copyright in the UK, Ford threatened to sue just before the launch of its iminent Focus RS. All initial Skoda Octavia RS log books have OCTAVIA RS as the model not sure about the latest but suspect they still do. The model is known elsewhere and in CZ as RS. Skoda have in its historic past used the RS designation for its cars.

The coloured v symbol is the Skoda Motorsport emblem and stands for victory it has nothing to do with the keyboard character or the Vrchlabi Factory where some of Skoda cars are manufactured.

I had this verified by Skoda CZ back in 2003 heres the response......

my mail ...

Please could you inform me what the `v` in the Skoda motorsport emblem

represents I believe it stands for Victory or the Czech translation, is

this correct . Best of Luck for the 2003 season

Dear Mr.........,

greetings from myself and the Skoda company as well. Thank you for your

message. We are pleased with your interest in Skoda Motorsport. The `V`

stands really for Victory.

If Ford was going to sue Skoda then why didn't they try it with porsche?

If Ford was going to sue Skoda then why didn't they try it with porsche?

Porsches aren't as quick as skodas. Not worth wasting money on suing them :)

So Ford knows that Skoda is the better brand hence why they are scared of being beaten? :D

Surely Ford cant be selective over who it would sue.

Pretty sure you can be...the only issue with copyright is using something without the holder's permission.

If Ford and Porsche worked out an agreement, no need to sue.

If Skoda and Ford couldn't come to an agreement, it would've been a different matter...

Rob.

It stands for Very Rapid Skoda! (well, probably not but i like it)

Very Rude Skoda

:D

So,Audi being part of the VW/Audi empire, how come they get away with RS4's and RS6's and the like and they won't look after their sibling company Skoda and fight the big boys at Ford on their behalf?

Is it just because they put a number after the RS bit?

Mind you. vRS makes it sound less common ;)
