Calling all OEM jumbobox/armrest retrofitters

Featured Replies

I've also posted this in the FB group, as I really need help ASAP and I know some people see stuff here but not there and vice versa.

I got myself an OEM armrest/jumbo box, aside from a few small niggles it all went fairly well.

I went for my first drive around the block to see how it felt, and all of a sudden I've no longer got 5th or 6th gear. It literally feels like the car is a 4 speed and can't move over to the right position to select the final two gears.

I'm hoping I've not caused any damage or anything, I did bump the gearstick a few times but nothing drastic at all.

From what I can see in the main gearbox part, nothing appears to be touching to stop it in the visible areas, the OEM rear vent ducting that came with the armrest I fitted does run around the lever but not close at all.

Here's a pic to see if it's something obvious from the top, happy to get more pics if need be:

There's absolutely nothing about the jumbo box that would cause the issues you are having.

Even if the ducting was getting in the way, it's soft enough to be pushed around by the gear stick mechanism.

More likely is that the bangs to the gear stick have somehow effected the shifter mechanism in the engine bay.

Have a look for threads on fitting a short shifter to see how that is accessed & works.

I can't think of anything else that would have suddenly caused these issues.

This was pretty much my concern!

Having just taken about 95% of it apart (to the extent where I have full movement in the centre part and the ducting I can pretty much agree that it can't be anything to do with the parts I've fitted.

Starting to fall out of love very quickly with this car, fuel pump failed last month and now this. I only wanted a poxy armrest!

Are you sure knocking it over it is not 5 & 6 your hitting. What is missing from the holes should they be a bolt? Reason i ask gear lever would be central for 3 & 4 gear.

Think they are the holes for aligning the gear linkage - pin goes through both to lock it in place.

There's no pin in the hole under normal circumstances.

+1  I must learn to finish my sentences with the important bit. :giggle:
