loss of acceleration/power

Featured Replies

Hi there! :notme:  I hope that you can help me...

My car is an octavia, `02 reg., 1.9 TDi. Mileage is little over 160k.

My problem is that the car is accelerating very slowly even with pedal fully pressed. This is more a 4th/5th gear problem, the car is fine in 1st/2nd, and perhaps very mildly affected in 3rd. The higher the gear, the worse this problem is.

More details to the problem:-

When in 4th, it used to be the case that when my pedal was to the floor, the car would accelerate so that you'd feel yourself pushed back against the seat. It would get up to 60 from 40 without problem---very important for slip roads.

Now, I rarely get this desired result. Completely the opposite! The car is very slow at accelerating from 40 even with pedal fully down in 4th gear. It is hard to get it to 60 in 4th. I don't see the revs that I want. MPG seems to be lower too (if that's any help).

In 5th gear it is even worse. Sometimes when I am going 50mph and in 5th, the car will not accelerate even with pedal fully pressed. Instead, I feel the car shaking. This shaking doesn't quite feel like a stalling type of shake though. (I have to slow down, go lower gear, then speed back up to 5th gear again in order to get to 70mph.)

Very rarely I get the car having its full power, if I do then it's for a minute or two, then it's lost its full power again. (if this helps to diagnose the problem)

Thank you for reading! Need further info, just ask!

Sounds like the old vnt turbo blades need a mr muscle

Unplug the MAF sensor... Drive and see if there is any difference... If acceleration improves then MAF is the culprit
