Age old engine question.

Featured Replies

This is probably asking the same old thing again. Most of your guys are fitting AFH 1400 16v engines which is perfectly understandable buuuut if I was looking for more power and wanting to keep it to a 1600 is it possible to fit (with ease like the AFH is) the power plant from a golf, same sort of year 97-98ish mk3 golf 1.6 DRIVER was also standard at around 100hp, engine code AEH is a 100hp 1.6 8v's that looks the same as the AEE is this easy??? Any ideas guys?

Why not just go 1.6 16v AFH?

Am I not right in thinking that the 1.6AFH is a mix match of engines because the AFH is a 1.4, so its this head bolted to that bottom end?

I've been reading up on this and it seems there are a couple of ways to do it. There is lots of information on clubpolo (google afh hybrid), also in teflontoms afh conversion thread too.

ARC/AVY 1600 polo gti motor is a good one to fit, uses the same bellhousing as the 1400 so the same bits are needed to fit it, then you just need an engine mount which is different to the 1400, I have done a couple now and they fly, 125bhp or so std

ARC & AVY are they 16v or 8 there a straight forward swop are they? Does the bell housing plate off the AEE bolt on to use skoda gear box? And have you done a engine mount for one before?

You can either put the AFH head onto the 1.6 AVY/ARC block but this requires a few issues to be solved or you can get the 1.6 AVY/ARC crank, pistons etc and put them into the AFH block which is probably the best way to do it as you wont have any of the issues.

AVY/ARC are 1.6 16v engines, the mounting of the engine would be quite simple but you can't use the felicia wiring loom like you can with the AFH which makes the conversion more difficult.

So if i put the bottom end in to an afh then thestandard wiring loom can be used? I assume putting the bigger bottom end in to the afh is basically a shorter stroke?

Yes you can use the AEE loom just with some re-routing of the injection section.

As yours is AEE you have basically all the parts you need, you will need a custom drivers side engine mount though.

awesome I guess a few of you have done this, are there any build threads that anybody knows of so I could have a good read and if I get stuck or need some proper advice or help is anybody out there able and willing with experience to give such help? iv gota find engines and bits so it wont be for a while yet.

What compilations are there in dropping an ARC or AVY straight in? I have a spare engine wiring loom.

There's plenty information about, try clubpolo also Toms 1.4 16v thread in the technical guides section.

Not too sure on the AVY/ARC but i know you can't use the original felicia loom so makes the conversion more complex sorting the wiring out.

What manifold and down pipe and ecu to do this....

Afh manifold and downpipe joined to existing felicia system and afh ecu...

are 4 branch manifolds easy to come by for the afh?
