Was the 1.4 TSI engine fitted in the MK1 Octavia?

Featured Replies

As title says guys or was the 1.4 TSI engine only fitted in the Octavia 11 or did the original have it.

Also what does the basic S model lack that the S.E. and Elegance have?

iI think it is only fitted in the mk3?....not sure about the S, but I had an elegance, now have an SE...the Elegance had quite a few bits and bobs extra, but the only couple of things I would miss are cruise control and rear parking sensors (rear sensors had been fitted to my SE, but I think are probably an "extra"...all the things I can recall on the Elegance that are not on the SE are:-

Cruise control..(I used it a lot in speed limit areas)

Rear sensors (like these..better visual system on the mk3)

Auto dimming mirror (quite handy really)

Larger central arm rest with "box" (did like the arm rest)

Rear seat "ski" hatch (big deal)

Nicer / more "upmarket" steering wheel (the SE is a bit of a plastic "blob"..but does what it needs to do)

Front fogs (no big deal really)

Both have tinted glass..but not sure if this was an optional extra on the SE or not)

I really wanted an Elegance again, but I am quite happy with the SE spec.....and again if you are unsure about the 1.4...drive one...I was hooked, and after 4 months I still really like it..just hope there are no long term reliability issues. Do be aware that the 1.4 is on a 9,000 mile service regime..my old diesel was 20K. I gues the more frequent service is to ensure clean oil around the turbo?

The 1.4 pulls quite well, almost as good as the diesel at lower speeds..but if you are used to a diesel you will need to retrain your right foot to give it some welly if you want to overtake "in a hurry". The engine is as low geared as the diesel was..and the gear change indicator keeps suggesting you change up at quit low RPM's, (I tend to ignore this)...normally drive around and change gear around 2,000 rpm, but if you want to "get a move on", the turbo seems to come into its own at around 4k rpm.......hope this all helps.

Mk2 with 122 hp and mk3 with 140 hp. Do not think that mk1 had the 1,4 tsi.

Thanks guys. Was going to view a basic S model tomorrow but think I will hold out for an elegance. Quite fancy a few of the exras in that list. The rear ski hatch could come in very handy for my fishing rods.

My 1.7 diesel astra is only 101hp and quite slow so think I will notice a bit more power from the 1.4 Tsi hopefully.

Mine is a elegance 1,4 tsi. Fantastic engine. I also have sport suspension and 17" pallas rims. Like the look and lower ride height. I also have alcantra seats. Love them. The only thing i would have improved was that i have the swing radio. Would be nice to have an upgraded stereo. I have dsg and love it. Had to change the mechatronic on it but luckilly under warranty.
