Don't waste your money of fluoro lined silicon hose.

Featured Replies

In short, I've been using some fluoro lined silicon hose on my CCV and two months after installing it, it is in the same state the normal silicon hose is in. This is ASH hose and I have emailed them regarding this. Their response is that fluoro lined hose is only resistant to oil and fuel and is expected to degrade like this!

You still need the Fluorosilicone lining for your application since it prevents the hose from degrading internally, it will have no effect on the exterior durability.

Is it right that the fluoro lining is still letting oil permeate through though? I thought it was supposed to prevent this? At the minute this hose is looking like it's behaving exactly as the non fluoro lined hose I was using.

I'm not a silicon hose expert by any means!

It certainly shouldn't be permeable to oil, to be fair I wouldn't use silicon for this particular application, I use braided aeroquip type fuel hose for anything and everything involving oil or fuel and silicon only for coolant and clean air.

Pull it off and check the internal lining.

Had the same happen on a Cosworth engine using Roose Motorsport lined silicone hose, discoloured badly.

Yes its sweating oil in the first picture which I was under the impression the fluorosilicone lining was supposed to prevent. It's the sweating oil which has discoloured the exterior.

I've contacted ASH and spoke to their customer services this afternoon and they didn't really have any answers, was quite embarrassing really lol.

I was too quick to jump on the silicone hose band wagon to be honest, it looks like there are better much cheaper hoses available for this application.

Yes will do mate. Now this is going to sound daft, what am I looking for? Rips, tears, discolouration? All of the above? Lol

What was the fault with your experience? Was it rubbish quality hose or just a faulty bit? ASH have said they will send me another bit out but I'm reluctant to bother fitting it.

After months of dithering i'd finally decided to fit my catch can,was going to order ash hose but looking at this i won't bother.

Anyone know the best hose to use for this as i only want to do it once otherwise i;ll just stick with the elephant.

I've been thinking this stuff looks like it would do the job

Arguably it doesn't have the bling factor of silicon hose, but then again, what is blingy about a dirty oil sweating bit of rubber.

My catch can setup look like a prop off a porno set at the minute all dirty and oily!

I saw that one, there's also some braided stuff with a ptfe inner on there that's  got a slightly smaller outside diameter which looks ok.

I'd live with the elephant mod but with winter coming on it looks like puff the magic dragon has taken up residence in my engine bay lol.
