Clutch use 101

Featured Replies

Im guessing you drive a diesel?

The htp will pull away with throttle input, but you have to let the clutch out soooooo slow haha.

Remember driving Pug diesels years ago - they would (with careful letting out of the clutch) let you pull away in 5th without stalling.

I always try to match my revs to speed so that the car doesn't lurch when changing gears (up and down).

  • I do recall the words of wisdom from my instructor "a set of brake pads is a lot cheaper than a new clutch!".

  • They haven't taught that airing here for over 15 years! Sounds like the OP needs driving lessons, gears are for going breaks are for slowing!

Yeah it was in pre turbo days - the pugs had huge amounts of bottom end torque.

When I was little (really little, I mean I can just remember the car) We had a Pug, think it was a 405, we traded it in at a garage and a couple of days later my dad was at the garage and someone had just taken the car back from a test driv. So he told the guy that it was a good, sound car and he should get it bought. Guy said yeah, but I didn't really want a car with a turbo. So my dad says "it doesn't have one."
