Huuuuuge problem :(

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I've noticed the last couple of days that my expansion tank has been getting quite full, and also my oil has been running low....

Only tonight I've got eh chance to look into it and opened the cap and brown sludge spewed out of it, the oil is getting into the coolant.... But the temperature gauge on the car is staying at 90 and the car runs fine!! What could it be?? Help!!

Id guess at head gasket. Cars can still run ok with it going. Not sure how long for. Maybe its just started?

My guess the oil cooler. The oil filter screws to it and coolant passes threw it to cool the oil. I believe theres a membrane to keep them from mixing.. Which can fail

It's ever since I had it in a garage to get a few things done, maybe he tampered with it so he can get more money out of me haha! And that was only about 2 weeks ago. Sounds like a pain if it is that by the oil filter as there's so much stuff in the way of it! And hope it's not the head gasket! Got the blowers on full heat. Only travelling 6 miles to work and back, got tomorrow to go then off til Monday night, will look into it then.

If you're lucky it's the oil cooler, but if not it's going to be the HG.

Gonna drop it off at a garage on Monday and leave it with them, as I'm on nightshift for 5 nights, wouldn't be able to get near it! Hope it's not the head gasket or I may burst into tears haha! Have the clutch to do as well ahhhh. Any other time if the year I wouldn't have minded as much, but not coming up to chrimbo! :(

Sounds like the sandwich plate oil cooler on the front of the engine where your oil filter screws on I had it happen to me on my 4x4 1.8 t

Will be the oil cooler, same oil cooler dates back to mk2 golf gti, happened to me on my mk2 golf gti, took the head off to find nothing wrong, then spoke to vw specialist who said oil cooler.

It was found to be the oil cooler, cars in the garage now and won't get it back til next Thursday! Gonna be so lost without haha! And got quoted 300+ for new one and labour, could be worse!! Glad it wasn't the head gasket!

Glad for you mate! Good news could have been worse!

Should fix it yourself easy job

Oil filter off undo 2 clips and a but remove replace job done

Thanks! Yeah could have been 10 times worse haha! Ach I'd rather get the job done properly and in good time, they have to flush out the whole coolant system and radiator, plus I'm working over this weekend and next week so wouldn't have the chance to do it.
