Hi all, my son is looking at purcasing a mk2 vrs. He has test driven it and everything seemed fine with going ahead with a deal until today, we received a phone call from the dealer informing us that the vehicle has had an oil recall earlier in its life. They don't know specifically what work what dove or why, and neither do skoda uk customer services. All they know is that the recall cost skoda £100. Could anybody hazard a guess at to what it could be?

gearbox. they change the oil from synthetic to mineral, to remove a potential corrosion issue.

The dsg service campaign work is more than 100 and why would they not know it was done. So an oil consumption test. But again they know what was done. Then a breather mod and a ecu update. Walk away. Imho

If it has had a dsg service field action the sticker should be in the boot. The service book and on the skoda computer system.

Ah many thanks sharkrider, was think consumption test, but that wouldn't be a recall though.

It is not a recall though. Neither is the heated seat elements. So just ask them to check is the dsg oil changed and the ecu update done. Or skoda customer services can say. The sticker should be in the spare tyre well.

The service campaign started in May 2014

The thing that has confused me is the recall part, the car had just over 2k on the clock when the work was done, it now has over 16k. Yet the dealer was honest and phoned up and told the wife, yet when the son phoned customer services they had a record of work being done, but can't say what work was done or why??

Who at the dealership? And why would skoda UK not know what they paid for?

What age is the car. And when was it at 2,000 miles? Sorry on a phone at the airport.

It's a 13 plate, so it's not even 2yrs old, I'm unsure as to how long ago the work was carried out, I'm still chasing skoda customer services. Hopefully have more luck with them tomorrow.

A car first registered in March should not have been needing the DSG oil changed unless vw were continuing to build boxes and using the wrong oil.

So it is and vw knew in 2012 what was wrong with the DQ200 DSG,,..

So could this just be a a dsg oil change after all? Iv placed an enquiry with skoda customer services again, waiting for them to get back to me.

It could be and someone must know the service and warranty and service campaign work done. Imputed to skoda UK system.

Right so I emailed skoda customer services again, making sure I said what George said above (many thanks btw), the customer service department phoned me almost straight away. Turns out the car had an oil consumption test as requested by the previous owner. It passed, I'm just awaiting the figures to be sent to the dealer.

There were and still are early CTHE built late 2012, early 2013 that still had issues.

 

A couple of Briskoda members required new engines in the First CTHE cars built.

 

I will not be surprised if the Official Oil Consumption test done shows that 0.3 Litres would be used in 1000 km. (621 miles)

But the test was done just over 300 km. and the Technician & Skoda UK said that was within tolerances.

0.5 litres in 1000 km is acceptable,

which it was and is not acceptable.

 

The results can be achieved because a short test done and multiplying the usage gives the result they wanted.

 

It could be a good car, or the owner could have been told, 'The All Use That' and had to just put up with topping up with oil.

 

If the give you the Oil Weights and the start of the test and the end of the test and the mileage actually covered.

we can see if it matches other Consumption Tests at that time, where the CTHE then ended up getting a new engine anyway.
