National pricing vs. dealer pricing

Featured Replies

Has anyone else had their dealer quoting different pricing structures for standard maintenance items?

On two separate ocassions in the last two years I booked a major service and a brake pad change, both times the bill was more than national pricing. Only after pushing did they "have another look at the system" before conceding.

Today, the same service guy said a cambelt and water pump change is £587, but with 15% offer comes down to £499. When I queried the national pricing of £459, the service guy claimed that's for the older 1.9 PD, not my 1.6 CR. I told him the website doesn't differentiate engine size/type, it only differentiates Fabia or other. He called back 5 minutes later and said  "ok, we won't argue over £40" which sounds like he still doesn't agree it should be £459.

Am I missing something because this charging practice seems at odds with what is usually very good service from Alex Laurie Liverpool.

Ah, I made a beeline for the pricing and ignored the T&Cs, the search function too for that matter. The search box confirms my nearest participating dealer would be Lightcliffe Warrington (despite Liverpool and Chester dealers nearby). I should've gone to Specsavers. Looks like I owe a positive review to Alex Laurie for all the price matching the last couple of years!
