starter motor clutch sliping

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

I own 2004 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI         ALH is the engine code  done 133000 miles

My problem is It appears as the starter motor clutch slips some times I have tried two new starters and they both appear to slip   note no teeth clashing noise

just like clutch slip, I am asuming my car has multimas clutch.

Any one no if the starter ring is part of the clutch assembly also anyone know of any thing that is known to move that would affect the starter opperation

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks in advance Dirk

Sounds like you could have some missing teeth on the dual mass flywheel.

I was thinking something like this, but I admit I have never seen a flywheel which has lost teeth.

Used to happen on older cars, as the engine always stops in the same couple of places, so the flywheel teeth wear. Not seen it on modern cars as the pre-engaged starter motors produce less wear, BUT it's still possible.

Hi Folks

Problem solved nothing wrong with starter moter nothing wrong with flywheel and starter  ring perfect.

How have i fixed it well here's one for the experts amongst us

The answer egr valve sticking closed position stoping the eng sucking air in  and because the motor can not turn eng starter clutch slips

To prevent the problem just clean the egr vavle flap and also the inlet mannifold but be careful not push carbon back in the eng

I had  not checked for about five years about 10000 miles

I hope this helps other people

Dirk

It's not the EGR valve (N18) - it's the anti-shudder valve (N239).

Both are almost alongside each other.

So we have another benefit of EGR delete then!  Flywheel preservation :D

Hi Folks

In reply to Freedom i do not posess all the skoda part reference  No 's like yourself but i do no the flap in the inlet mannifold at the point ware the exaust gas returns to the eng Has always been generally known in the trade as the exaust gas recirculating valve.

On my car that has the 90 bhp  version i think it is code ALM there is nothing before the flap but after  flap there is a senser of some of some sort.

I have been a Diesel fitter for well over 45 years and i still do not no every thing  and am always willing to listen and learn

Keep up the good work to help us all to keep our skoda's rolling
