Tyres - Argh, Prices And Fitting And.....

Featured Replies

So, I need some new tyres. Fronts are on the lmit and the rears aren't that far behind - so time to do something I've not done in a while, replace all 4.

I currently have Conti SC5's all around and I've been happy enough with them.

Couldn't decide which tyres to go for - SC5's again, Rainsport 3's, but the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymm. 2 seem to be getting glowing reports.

Shopping around and obviously just buying the tyres is the cheapest option - but who will fit tyres I supply? Every "place" I call up say "we only fit what we supply mate". So very worried to buy just the tyres and then find nowhere to fit them.

Anyone know anywhere in the Cambridge/Peterborough/Fens area that would fit tyres I supply?

Then someone mentioned event-tyres.co.uk and I popped along to their site. They sell themselves as one of these "fitting tyres at your home for 10 years" etc. Has anybody actually used these guys before?

I search for all tyres in my size: 225/40/18/92Y

Up comes a big old list, yet every single one of them says: **Delivery Only** across the top. So the headline £99.54 per tyre looks great, but I'm assuming that is delivered onyl and that they would then charge me to fit them - although they have no mention at all how much extra it will actually be to have them fitted!

So - I need the cheapest way of getting 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymm. 2's on my car with no risk (so no buying just tyres and finding I cannot get them fitted anywhere!).

Pointers, ideas and anything basically appreciated.

just been to costco & michelin pilot sport 3 for my motor octavia vrs

225/40/18  £107 fitted

£50 off for a set of four on top of this as well

My local tyre place just charges me £5 a tyre if I supply a loose rim and loose tyre. Guess I must just be lucky?

£10 a tyre for fitting that includes removing and despising of the old one too

I used event tyres last week.

Paid £90 each for 2 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta fitted at home, disposal balancing the lot all in. So £180 for the pair = me happy!

Didn't see anything about delivery only when searching.

Definitely use again. Nice price, fitted at home, rang to confirm time slot on the day.

And the tyres are proving to be great, fitted to the front. No idea on how long they will last me, read people with both low and high miles out of them so we will see.

have also used event in the past without any problems

just decided to pay the extra £17 for Michelin if not for the deal at costco would def have had another 2  Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta  fitted to replace the worn out ones

I take old ones away too.  There's always drifters out there wanting used 17" tyres :D

If they give you spiel about disposal etc. then take them away, most councils have at least one HWRC that will take them, you can check on your councils website as its not generally advertised on site (though one in Bradford actually had a proper container for them).

Mine charges £2 a tyre so I'd be better off giving local tyre place £1.50 :D

In the past I have put the tyres on Ebay at 1p start and they usually get snapped up.

I've since learnt that the "Delivery Only" message at Event Tyres is because I'm apparently not in their area for fitting. For some reason I assumed they covered "The UK", it would appear they don't.

Bugger. I thought where I live would be out of bounds but no issues for me.

The search continues!

Got my last tyres at Halfords auto centre! Prices weren't that bad and the garage used to be an Indy so they did a good job.

I decided shopping around to save each extra quid was not worth the hassle in the end. If you can save a good wedge of cash then it's OK.

That's a shame. I used event tyres recently their mobile fitting service is damn good think so I know they cover the Oxfordshire area

It's so frustrating seeing this "Yer, I'm charged £5 to have all my tyres fitted" and the like. I can source the tyres at very respectable rates, but when you're then looking at £55 - £65 to have them fitted then it's not worth shopping past the "fully fitted" pricing.

Everywhere around me that can do tyres simply want the whole deal - tyres and fitting and quote "health & safety" bull**** or just say "no" when I ask about fitting tyres I supply.

I can get the 4 tyres delivered from "Love Tyres" for £350.40 and if I too could find reasonable fitting that would be a no-brainer, but cannot at the moment risk buying only to find I cannot get them fitted anywhere!

Oh well, looks like it's going to cost me around £450 to get a full set of the F1's fitted.

My local place I didn't ask, I just turned up with the tyres and wheels... its a back street place, selling part worns and always a few taxi's parked out side getting tyres. Don't think the national places are the ones to go to for this type of service.

I charge myself nothing to change mine.
