My First Octavia And I Have A Few Q's Please.

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone.

I have just bought a Skoda Octavia 1.8T 4x4 on a 53' plate. Full service history ( very happy with that) for a bargain price with 6 months mot.

Im thinking of upgrading the exhaust but i'm not sure on which systems will be compatible compared to standard 1.8t's because of it being the 4x4 (exhaust may run differently). Any advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

My second question is regarding to a BOV or dump valve. I love to hear my turbo and would like to hear the BOV sound but I don't want it to be majorly loud and I dont want to be putting the EML light on as I have read happens with the golf 1.8t.

Thirdly is there anything I should be keeping an eye out for on this specific model now that its about 135k on the clock. (Timing-belt was done at 120k)

Other than that. Thanks for providing this wealth of information on these Forums and I look forward to getting involved.

Cheers

howdy. First things to check given the nasty weather - open back the wheel arch linings and clear out behind them. Otherwise you'll be joining the "water in my footwell" post brigade ;) same goes for sunroof drains if you have one... Beyond that if everything's working, just enjoy driving it!!

Youll need a co e filter to hear yiur dv, forge 007 recirc valve is a little louder than stock

Im surr milltek do a cat baxk for your car and

If its due an oil change get them to check that the oil sump pick up pipe is still ok ? (Had mine replaced mine as a precaution at 160k. Still running sweet)

What is the problem that occurs with the oil pick up?

The strainer gauze can block with sludge and the feed pipe can get restricted by carbonisation from old oil and can starve the turbo and engine of oil pressure. fit a new pipe as under £10 from main agent.

Thank you. Kentphil1. I work at a garage so when I have the time Ill get it in and get a technician to do oil and filter and check replace that strainer. Thank you.

The joys of working in the motor trade should not be under estimated. Ramp free whenever I want it. Cost price parts and 20 labour during work ours or free use for myself.

Any other common faults i should look for?

Is there a diagram of where this drain is? have found the sun roof drains and cleared a little bit of muck out of the end but not sure where the other ones are?

Thanks

If for some reason until you get it changed the red oil light comes on - do not drive it any further, there are many threads on here with this fault, and not all of them have ended well for people. For such a small outlay, get it done as soon as is possible for you. I would also tell your guy in your shop whoever does it for you to not go mad with the sealant on the sump, otherwise it will block up again for a different reason. :giggle:

Oh and excuse my ignorance - welcome to Briskoda.

Pretty sure someone posted a pic recently, with arrows and stuff, but cant remember who. a quick search for B Pillar Leak might get it for you though.
