Headlamp Washers Not Working. Help Please

Featured Replies

HI all.

As above, I have the 2006 1.9 TDI Edition 100 model and MOT time is looming. Besides the headlamp washers it all works fine, even on 168K miles as it is now.

Normal windscreen washers and wipers work fine as do the headlamps themselves. But the washer system for the Xenons has nothing at all. No pump sound, the washer trays don't slide out, nada, zilch.

Looking in the manual there isn't any mention of which fuse it's on, or relays etc. Can anyone help with this information please?

Thanks. Dom.

Headlamp washer pump on mine had gone.

Must use hydraulic pressure to push out the washer jets. Bear in mind though, you have to hold on the windscreen wash for a short while before the headlamps get washed.

OK, thanks. I'll get the front bumper off and take a look.

Bear in mind the washers only come out after holding for a few seconds with the headlights turned on. Without turning on the headlights they won't come out. There is a separate pump for the headlight washers and the main washer, so it should be easy enough to debug. You will probably need to prime the washers if they are dry.

1. As jimbof said check if the light is on.

2. The headlight washers only work if there is enough water in the tank. Make sure to fill it fully up (Not sure if the headlightpump starts in this case though).

There are 2 pumps on the watertank. The lower one is for the windshield and the upper one is for the headlights. I recommend you to plug off the lower pump when troubleshooting, otherwise you'll waste a lot of water and get wet.
