Air Intake Pipes And Bits..need Advice

Featured Replies

Hi, i have little to no clue about the whole air intake, did some research and found that there are induction kits but cars mostly benefit from them after a remap and i'm not doing a remap so just want a little bit more pull from my car and i've seen people change the pipes that connect the front intercooler (or not?) and the air filter? Can i get a larger diameter pipe that would potentially increase the air intake without buying a whole induction kit? And also the pipe that connects the air filter to the engine..any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Anyone....??

I doubt you would get any advantage from an induction kit without a remap... and some cheap kits have even been proved to reduce power, the expensive ones like ITG have been consistantly proved on here to add power with a remap or TMC box, upt to 10 bhp...

I dont have a remap, and not wanting to change the stock setup , I have simply put a pipercross replacement element in the original airbox, they say it improves airflow, but for me, its a lifetime filter that never needs changing :) (you clean it every now and then :) )

Sadly an induction kit alone on a monte isn't going to give any noticeable extra pull.

Yeah that's what i meant...i don't want an induction kit i was just wondering if there were any bits like wider pipes available on the market to increase airflow and what are they called?

The pipercross filter sounds good, will see if i can read up more on it online or see what they are, thanks

First of all air filter does not connect with the intercooler at all :)

Getting that out of the way, to make the engine breathe better is the Holy Grail of every tuner. Changing some pipes in the intake tract in atmospheric section and/or charged section might actually substantially decrease the performance of the car.

Best example is with exhausts - the bigger the Heinz can at the back the quicker it goes? It will be certainly more Furious and most certainly less Fast :).

Each engine has a very specific diameter and length of every part of the exhaust system which yields best results powerwise in different rev ranges. This is dependent on a plethora of factors like boost pressures, turbo flow characteristics, size of valves and cams geometry, head design  etc, etc...

My advise to you would be to keep changing your air filter every 6 months together with oil and oil filter and plugs every 15-20k miles. This way you will maintain your motor at top form compared to hap hazard badly maintained mods. Want more power? Loose some weight and run the car on the best fuel available :)

Very well put, thanks for that, my filter is due a change so i will do that soon :)
