Shipping Time From South Africa For Vw ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife has ordered a VW Polo which is built in South Africa.

The dealer phoned today to advise that it is built and has left the factory. He is reluctant to give a delivery date but he indicates that the ship from SA Port Elizabeth will first dock in Germany (Emden, where my Octavia was shipped from ) then on the the UK (Grimsby ?).

Anyone had experience of ordering a VW from South Africa and the duration between leaving SA and arriving UK?

Thanks.

My son is also waiting on a Polo, a 3dr so it was built in Spain and arrived in Emden on Wednesday. Dealer has told him end of November for collection although my son's hoping for sooner as he sold his own car on Saturday.

What polo are you waiting on, I have to say their quite an impressive little car.

He's ordered a 90hp se.

My wife's ordered Polo is also 90hp 1.2 SE but 5 door, Dsg with a few options added, in Blue Silk metallic which I understand was only available on GT models before facelift spec.

Yes, we were quite impressed on several test drives.

I liked the blue silk colour, that will be a nice polo, my son went for red with the bigger alloys, electronic climate, winter pack and iirc cruise and park. I hope he gets it next week as I'm fed up running him about.

Must admit that the options that my wife chose are similar to those on my Octavia and have found useful, they are front fogs, folding mirrors, front armrest and like your son, the parking sensors and cruise.

Hope your son's car arrives soon and then your taxi service can finish. My wife keeps nicking my Octavia !

Son took delivery of the polo tonight, exactly 8 weeks after order. Have to say it's very nice. Drives really well, I could well be tempted by a GT Blue or the GTI.

It goes to Germany first?  Isn't that a bit of a waste when the ferry will be passing England on the way?

I was advised it goes to Germany for final quality control. The cars destined for mainland Europe are separated at this point and those for Europe are loaded onto another ship for UK along with any other cars / Audi, Merc, BMW or whatever to make up shipment.

Jolly good, excellent.

8 weeks is quite good as my wife ordered her Polo on 29th August (approx 12 weeks ago) and we are led to believe it is on a ship somewhere on the high seas !

I will get a update from the dealer on the 8th December.

Bertone, I haven't personally used it but if you have the order number you can track the car yourself on the VW online tracker, from order right through build and the shipping, it seems pretty accurate and regularly updated going by some of the VW forums.

I don't know why the dealers don't give out this information and save all the phone calls.

I got this last week:

Polo1

Really enjoying it so far, but as a mistake was made when ordering (not by me), I'll be getting another new one next March!

It's almost more of a Golf than a Golf, only in the rear and in the boot do you notice less space and it's (almost) sensibly priced too.

Really like your GT Blue jlwah, I'm trying to talk the wife into one instead of a new golf.

How do you find the performance and economy?

If you don't mind me asking what was the issue with the order?

Do you mean you what her to go for a 'Polo Blue GT' 1.4tsi ACT. ?

The picture is a Polo GT Bluemotion.

?  Are they the same thing?

VW do not half make it hard to know what is what,

or it is just me that is dim.....!, OK it is me.

Have only done about 250 miles so far and haven't "opened her up" yet to assess the performance, but she feels sprightly enough and the quoted figures look pretty respectable.

Economy is around 40mpg (but again, it's only done 250 miles or so), though I did get an indicated 50mpg on a trip to the tip yesterday! I'll have a better idea later in the week as I've got 250 mile round trip to do.

It's also only £20 a year to tax and comes with one years free insurance (though that didn't include my 19 year old daughter much to her annoyance as she was using it at the weekend (she was covered on the 7 day insurance used for taxing the vehicle) and declared it her ideal car!!)

The dealership forgot to add Xenon lights to the factory order, even though my order clearly stated their inclusion. The dealer have been very good and admitted it was their error straight away and says I can use this one until the new one arrives.

Polo Blue GT is a 1.4Tsi with cylinder de-activation. The Polo is rated at 150hp, whereas A1, Golf, etc. is 140hp, though I'm sure they'll get uprated any day soon.

Is it the Polo 2014 Facelift that has the 150ps (148bhp) then,

& if someone buys the previous models 'used', they are 140ps engines ?

Yes, that's correct.

Yes, I agree that that will be better but dealers seem to be reluctant to give that info. Perhaps they want to appear helpful.
