Octavia VRS door mirrors

Featured Replies

Both door mirrors, just the thin mirror that attaches to a softish plastic backing, not the whole unit, fell off literally within weeks of each other a couple of months a go. Managed to retrieve them both as I noticed they were coming off and one fell off in the drive without smashing!! I have stuck them both back on with bostik but one has fallen off again. Anyone had this happen to them and if so what have they used (successfully!) to stick the mirror plates back on with?

Cheers

Not had it on my vRS, but a '55 plate Vectra had both mirrors do exactly the same. The glue used to bond the mirror to the plastic breaks down over time. I'd read various attempts by people, but decided to just bite the bullet and buy new mirrors from the dealers.

It's happened to mine once traveling at 60 noticed it about to fall off, managed to stick hand out the window just in time and save it.I stuck mine on with gorilla tape from toolstation or screwfix I think it was, amazing stuff defiantly won't fall off again it's crazy strong stuff.

You can new mirrors for about £10 a pop off eBay. New heated ones are stupid expensive from Skoda.

Have a hunt through the forums & you'll find that this is a very common problem. I've had it happen on my two previous Octavias - fortunately I managed to save the glass before it came off completely and smashed.

I used carpet tape to stick mine back on - it's like a more heavy duty gaffer tape - and they never came loose again.

There's a bit of a debate as to whether leaving the mirror heaters switched on hastens the loosening of the original sticky backing on the glass - some swear it's rubbish, others swear it's not.

(most just swear because the bl**dy glass has fallen out) :swear:

Anyway, I'd recommend the carpet tape, or failing that, the stuff that they stick number plates on with.

Good luck. :)
