Network bandwidth controller/simulator..

Featured Replies

Bit of an interesting one this..

Does anyone have any ideas on either a hardware or software bandwidth shaping solution?

im after something that can limit max throughput to say 128k.

its for a project im doing at work.. and its going to involve building a test area, setup to replicate one of my companys typical branches.. each branch has a 128k IPstream WAN connection, so i need to find a way to limit connection speed on a mini-network to this.

ideas anyone?

Couple of cisco routers back to back with the serial ports set to run at 128k?

Thats what we do , but then we have dozens of the things to play with which you might not

Hmmmmm we might get away with that, we use cisco routers alot :)

cheers for that

Only thing is that you do need a pair of cables (one of which is less common) to do this rather than just the one as one of the routers needs to force a clock rate on the other as normally they just pick up the speed from the BT line. I can't off the top of my head remember the name for the cable in question but if you have any cisco experts they will know what they need.

Now all I have to do is make sense of the documentation for the Dell switches I have here so I can get VRRP working correctly on monday when I have to pretend to be an expert on them  :(

We've recently had a Packeteer solution installed at work, which is a brilliant bandwidth shaping/packet sniffing option. It comes at quite an extravagent price though.
