EML light on after exhaust change.

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Been a while since ive had to report on any bad news. I recently had my exhaust changed from standard to a miltek one including the downpipe.

It runs well but now the engine management light has come on. The second oxygen sensor has been renewed and the first one was renewed earlier this year after i purchased the car. Eml came on then as well but cleared once sensor was changed.

It stayed on this time round for a few days and the went off it self. After a couple more days its back on again. Now i know people will say stick it on a vcds machine to find the fault but before i do thus, has anybody experienced anything similar? Nothing else was done at mot time in regards to the running of the car except new rear calipers, disks and tyres.

Thanks in advance.

There are some non critical fault codes that the ECU will turn on & off over a few driving cycles, so you really have no choice but to get it on diagnostics to find out what's going on.

Is this a decat system?.

As above, if you have decatted your car, then it'll more than likely throw up a 16804 code after an unspecified time/mileage, as the second lambda is in a stream of dirty air. Think mine took around 800 miles to come on. It's now been mapped out.

I think it is a decat system. Purchased it off mattvrs from here who is currently breaking a black one.

I will get it it checked out on vcds this week and see what code it brings up.

I'm sure there was a spacer for sale to move the sensor out of the flow so the error light wasn't thrown up! Does this ring a bell to anyone??

This type thing http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/291281996899?nav=SEARCH

I seem to remember a member on here having a 90 degree re-site adapter on here - think it was Volvomeg, that seemed to effect a cure on decat pipes. may be worth a search on here

Or you could have same issue as me, i fitted a 3" toyo sport decat and down pipe and due to the size increase my first lambda has hit the heatshield and bent so now it dont warm up so the eml comes on
