Heated rear window & mirror switch

Featured Replies

2 part question guys please.

1. When I turn the door mirror switch to the heater position it stops at 9 0'clock but the picture of the heater on the switch is at around 10 - 11 o'clock. Is this normal or as the switch been forced out of position?

2. Car only 3 years old. Put heated rear screen on this morning for first time and i'm not even sure it was working. Are they crap by nature? If not maybe I have a fuse thats blown.

Yes 9 o'clock position is the same as mine. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes for my rear screen to get rid of the smear.

Thanks after reading a few post now decided to leave the switch in the 9'oclock position permanantly over the winter months.

Can't get over how slow the heated rear window is compared to my old astra I've just sold. That would clear in about 3-4 minutes. This car takes about 10 just to get started and still isnt clear after 15 - 20 minutes.

That's not right.

Mine starts to clear pretty much straight away (you can see the lines clearing after about 30 seconds). If it's really bad it can take a few minutes but normally cleared before it turns itself off after 10 minutes.

I'm not sure having heated mirrors on all the time is advisable, usually they clear of mist/ice in minutes.

Could be you've a bad earth connection somewhere.

Check out the plug connections on the rear screen. Apparently a well known issue that some left the factory not connected properly.

Will do thanks guys

the rear screen will turn off after some time. also, so do the mirrors. they also only turn on only if the outside temperature is under 20 degrees. so pretty much all the time for you UK people :P

The mirrors only work with the engine running. ..not just with the ignition on.

Re mirror heaters on permanently

I meant the mirror backing could become damaged and give a cloudy image.

No biggie... unless you have the tres expensivo self dimming variety.

Should be wearing tights over their heads and wielding a sawn off shotgun at the price they ask!

OK mirrors switched off, and rear window now better after a good cleaning on the inside.
