I Can't Find That Power Wiring Thread?

Featured Replies

Hullo

Can someone "in the know" point me abruptly in the direction of that thread with all the photo's on that helps with wiring up, but more importantly, the "path" for the cable through the car, and from the engine into the cabin...

Didn't Q post it?

I want to go home so won't start looking for it now...

fair enuff. Q? - I know you've told me once... but?

Well, not so much want to go home, but can't be bothered!

On mine - power lead is cable-tied around the battery - inline fuse holder is therefore behind the battery. Lead then goes through the forementioned grommit thing and under the plastic side trim inside the car...

  • Author

so the "grommit" thing is from the engine bay into the inside of the car... So, how big is this grommit and will a 20mm cable (it could be 25mm) cable fit through it? (with a little persuasion?)

what thickness/rating power cable do you use?

You'll be wanting us to brush your teeth next, Jason! Try search again...and again...and again until you find it. TTFN.

And when I got the "DGW has replied..." email I thought "Good old Denis has found the link and posted it...

Images are on Q's home server IIRC - his broadband might be buggered atm, or the PC switched off...

There seems to be a common theme that Netscape here crashes when Funkyjutel has posted in a thread. It totally confuses me as there's no logical reason for it...?

Unless his avatar upsets Netscape?

Try looking at his profile to see if that does it too...

Glad you found it again Jason, you see, the search button does work ;)

The images are no longer (and havent been for the last month or so) hosted at home but at a paid (so called) professional host, so whatever problems you are experiencing, I put it down to user error :p

Hmmm... "Jason" .... "User Error" ....

Nope, can't ever see them being used together in the same sentence.... ;)

My mate reckons 25mm 170A power cable is "overkill" - I only hope I can route the cable and get all the trim back in it's original spaces (anyone know how much room is behind the panels?) :D

If my experience with the RS is anything to go by... not a lot.

Jason,

My multichanger lurks under the passenger seat - the cable between it at the head unit it about 25mm, and runs behind the trim most of the way, so there should be room...

Will you be able to connect the power cable (given the thickness) to the splitter and/or amp? i.e. is the "socket" (for want of a better word) large enough to accept the power cable?

  • Author

Splitter = u/s now. The cable will fit, even if I have to butcher the insulation somewhat. I've already offered the new cable up to the free end of the fuseholder and it's a "snug fit" :D - I think I'll borrow some insulation tape from a mate just to be safe (as I can)

Weather looks good this evening, so a little panel removal is on the cards. Last night was so drizzley that I couldn't do anything but LOOK at the amp. :( - spent the whole evening just mooching and sulking. :D

Have you decided how you're going to position everything in the boot yet?

  • Author

Think so...? Here goes.

Sub = against the back seat - still unclear how to fix it. I was going to put it on the far right, but then the metal hooky things will get in the way. - fastening ideas well apreciated... (not glue)

AMP = fastened to the left hand side of the boot - should be able to run wires under the boot floor so they're well hidden. Don't know how I'm going to fasten it either, as there's no fixings on it, that I can see. I can see I'm going to be using some kind of velcro affair, as the boot carpet side definitely sticks with velcro (it sticks my car pump OK in the back l/h/s)

Nipping down to radio shop in a minute to grab 5m cable for the RCA feed. anyone know how this gets routed to the back of the H.U?

RCA or remote?

There should be a "spare lead" hanging off the HU marked remote - connect it to that (I think it's a blue lead?)

  • Author

Well, actually both I think. I need the input feed for the L & R from the HU, and some 12v remote wire for a possible on/off switch, depending on how much that costs.

I'm a little bit poor at the moment having just paid off my credit card with the 40K service & springs bill on it... :( - [a la Q - will work for beer at the National. :D]

The remote wire is fairly standard wire - shouldn't cost too much....
