HELP: Need to connect my iPod Nano to my Alpine Head Unit via RCA leads

Featured Replies

I just bought an iPod Nano along with a RCA/3.5mm jack lead. I've plugged the RCA leads directly into the back of the Head Unit and connected my Nano, and what ever volume I set my Nano or Head Unit at I get a very (very) quiet output, and slighty hissy!!

Suggestions please...

Doesn't it need some sort of preamp? It'll be a input impedence/voltage thing, she needs more power captain!

I'd concur...sounds like the output voltage from the headphone jack is too low for the RCA sockets.

Despite the Alpine units being IPod ready, I believe the Nano has some compatibility issues with in-car systems which work fine with the like of the Ipod Mini.

Rob.

I have one of the latest headunits, it is ipod compatible. BUT the interface on Apline's ipod controller has some serious flaws!! I don't want to go down that root... Apple have made an incredible product with THE best interface you can get, and I want to use it!

Oh, I am just about to get the Apline 9855 with the Ipod adaptor, is that not a good idea, I thought all the menu's were available through the head unit? Also it charges the ipod (3rd Generation) as you go, I thought this was good...no? :o

Any help welcome.

I'm confused as well, surely you'd want to use the iPod through the stereo controls, rather than fiddle with the Nano while on the move

Sorry all, I was being an idiot, I was connecting the rca leads into an amp out (cue laughter... :o ), what a muppet!

I've just purchased an KCA-121B lead, which allows me to plug the iPod in! So nothing to do with the output from the iPod!

I'd definately try before you buy. Searching through song/artist listings can get tiresome... 3 minutes to scroll through from Abba to Westlife... You need to setup playlists to stand a chance of using the Alpine interface!

I personally, am going to use a tiny bit of velcro to stick my iPod to the dash (it only weighs 42g), which will be closer than the headunit to touch! (will post pics eventually) As for powering the iPod on the go, I figure the 14 hour battery life will be plenty sufficient between recharges...

LOL re output...

All i ever do it stick it on shuffle and skip the song if i dont want to listen to it, so should be ok, when theres 4,000 songs on shuffle you rarely hear the same one twice... ;)

Whats the score with the Nano? I've heard allsorts about the screen cracking and general scratches, what say you good sir?

I say they are Grrrrrrrrreat!!

Don't believe all you hear, problems with some screens have effected some Nano's but apple are replacing them (1 in 10,000 chance of getting a bad one).

People have also noticed they break if they're dropped onto concrete and they scratch if carried with keys and coins... simple answer, don't fu**ing do it then... :thumbdwn:

I must admit my nano has millons of little lines all over it, now I've used it. It looks like after you have polished a car, when you look at it at a certain angles and can see where the cloths been, but I wouldn't call them scratches!!

Everyone who's seen it has been suprised just how small the thing is! I give it 5 stars...
