Steering issue 1.9 tdi 2005

Featured Replies

Hi all ,

Bit of an odd one. Car has nearly 170k of 95% motorway miles for 140k of them anyway. I had noticed when leaving home in the mornings turning around the small roundabout at the end of the Close some resistance in the steering. Lately this is now to the point when I turn say left or right info another road. The steering does correct itself but that last bit does not straighten the wheels unless I do.

Only work done on car this year. New Cupra consoles and rear shocks.

No other suspension work ever in my ownership and full Skoda history.

Any ideas what I am suffering.

If you have no warning light then it sounds like the actual steering is working fine but this could be a faulty steering angle sensor.

Only way to really tell would be to have a diagnostic scan to check for any fault codes and to check the output of the sensor.

Thanks Phil will get it hooked up for faults. How and with what do you check the output?

Normally with VCDS.

You would go into the steering assist module and you are able to view the output from the sensor in + & -.

As you turn the wheel the numbers should go up and down. If the numbers jump around etc then there is something wrong.
