Brake disc cleaning

Featured Replies

A small lips has build up around the tips of the brake disc, is it ok to use a hammer to softly bang off the rust?

I have taken the disks off in the past and just rubbed them with an angle grinder. Don't do it on the car though, incase the sparks touch the paint work.... For the rush, I just run a rough file over them.

Why bother it will only come back again......

Hammers and brakes discs are never a good idea unless you're putting new ones on and the old ones are un co-operative. :thumbdwn:

If it is a small rust ridge rather than a wear ridge you can knock it off with some light taps from a hammer. If its a wear ridge though you need new discs and pads if its bad enough. Minimum thickness for the disc is stamped in the centre around the centre hole.
