suggestions for a used head unit - mk 1 Octy estate 03

Featured Replies

Our Symphony HU is working but no cd changer anymore as it just won't work, bought a used replacement but no good so it's time to upgrade, what with small people an all I can't stretch to a new unit at the moment, maybe in a few months after chrimbo, so looking for any suggestions as to what to look out for on the used market which would be more up to date and an easy fit so no double din units.

I miss my music, so if suggestions point towards saving for a new unit and then speakers so be it but it may take a while

any help or pointers would be welcome

ta very much

Roughly what is your limited budget at present?.

You can pickup new single din units at halfords or car audio direct during this time of year in the sales for circa £50 if you dont expect to much in features on the headset.

You will find that unless you get another Skoda unit, you will most likely lose the ability to use the boot changer, but most units now do WMA/mp3, so just burn onto a cd or use a memory stick if it has usb.

Also, check out the for sale here, as bargains come up from time to time as people upgrade.

Budget if pre xmas probably 50 to 70, the cd auto changer hasn't worked anyway for a year now, even with a replacement I got of here, I had the usual leak in the boot compartment where it is housed from the washer jet hose coming off which I have fixed, I've removed it all and cleaned all the connections with IPA etc but although I have power to the unit and it plays the discs the sound is like a dying badger and completely distorted. The replacement is the same so I can only presume the male connection from the loom is damadged somehow.

Yes i'm happy with a unit to allow me to download music or burn cd's etc, if it had a single cd  too that would be good as we do have a few. I'm 47 so my collection is mostly cd based but that can be changed.

If someone else had changed their mk 1 original stereo and were happy with what they had then this is sort of what I was edging towards I suppose, some good review to a unit I could aim to get with bluetooth maybe and be android compatible as me and the Mrs both have LG G3's, not Iphones.

thanks again, I'm a tad out of date when it comes to car stereo's aren't I ?

You would have to download your music or rip your cd's with a pc then transfer to either cdr or usb stick. Most units have a single cd now - new oem units have none now. Bluetooth tends to come a little higher up the price range, but check the places I suggested, you may get lucky.

This is just an example of what is out there, it is not a recommendation - http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/car-audio/dab-radios-car-stereos/kenwood-kdc-261ub-ipod-usb-car-stereo

I personally have an Alpine unit, as I can match the back-lighting to the dash at night - sad I know, but it is cool,
