The gap of my plugs

Featured Replies

I remember reading on here somewhere that mapped cars should have their spark plug gaps reduced slightly?  I'm on a stage 1 performance map, was it 0.7mm they should now be?  Could someone please confirm?  Cheers

Yes that's right. Mapped is 0.028 imperial 0.7mm metric. Standard is 0.032 imperial or 0.8mm metric iirc.

Sweet, cheers dude

Although I'm not disagreeing, I would be interested to know why this is.

mine runs better with iridium and not re gapped?

That's interesting, might try that at service interval but for now I'm just looking to optimise what is in there. Just feels like it could be a teensy bit smoother on cold start for example, plus I just want to make sure everything is right.

I should imagine its because the increase in just about everything post-map will require a quicker ignition response from the plugs?

Just had a quick look at the Iridiums, look good, may go for those when time comes. Seems they're gapped at 0.6mm?

I have just put NGK Iridiums in mine. When checked they were pre gapped to 0.7mm

Ideal, how do they run? Did you notice any improvement?

They run great. IMO much better than the BKR7E plugs that I had in previous. Generally seems smoother.

Cheers, will definitely go for those next, for now I'll just get my gap down
