Random "tock" sound from rear of 2014 1.8 TSi

Featured Replies

In the last couple of months there's been a random tock-tock sound from what i think is the floor pan area behind rear passenger drivers side.

It sounds like an old fashioned noisy indicator relay but the click sound is slow and with a random interval.

It usually strikes from cold and lasts about 10 minutes while driving in any style and when stationary.

I've made sure that nothing is rolling around in boot.

Although it would be covered by the warranty, to get this sorted takes up my time travelling to the dealers.

I was wondering if anyone has had this before and whether it is a DIY fix?

Only thing around there that I can think of would be the lift pump from the fuel tank.

Snap, I've just started to get this sound.

It sounds like the pump in the fuel tank.

I'll have to visit the dealer, problem is it only happens at the start of the day so that means losing the car overnight.

It may be the outward vent flaps which are around the rear wheel arch area. Various people have pointed this out recently on here.

Did you have the fan on a highish setting at the time? Mine does it if I'm in demist mode when first pulling away and at low speed, quite a loud tapping noise.

Fuel splashing in the fuel tank may sound similar.

Thanks for replies all. I'll look at the vent flaps this weekend to start with.

I posted something like this some time ago, but never go any replies .........

It happens in mine when it's raining heavily! Mentioned to the dealers at service who heard it, investigated it at service but could not find a cause
