monte screen misting up

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone.

Had my monte 6 weeks now as the cold weather has started im findind the windscreen is really hard to clear.and is sometimes frozen (inside) anyone else having this trouble??

Thanks

Kelvin

There have been issues with doors filling with water and water emptying when opening depending upon if you park level or not. mine certainly does fill up this I think has an effect when it is frosty . Also I found the doors to be hard to open as if the seals were sticking but I have applied a liberal coating of silicone spray and this has sorted this issue out. if the water in the doors freezes then this can have an effect on the inside of the car but it is better if you use the aircon/climate along with the heater on demist to help clear the windscreen hope this helps.

check mats not damp/wet.

my drivers door drains when opened as drive has slight down slope.

also check that scuttle drain holes are clear as can overflow into cabin.

check door seals are good and fitted correctly.

I wouldnt worry, they do it when theyre new.

I cleaned my screen then applied near fairy washing up liquid, and polished off.

A trick I've used on motorbike helmet visors for a good while, so thought id try it on the car.

It doesnt mist at all now (:

I have this on my Monte and Roomster before.

It seems to be after rain or when raining and you open the door. Water seems to go all over the floor and seats, bad design

I bought a cheap mini dehumidifier which I put in the car for a day now and again when I get this issue and all seems to be good for a while.

I must say I miss the days of gutters in the roof. You could have your window open slightly in bad weather without water pouring down the roof and in the windows.

fairy liquid, never contains SALT......

fairy liquid, never contains SALT......

I think that should have been "" Fairy Liquid never, contains SALT....""

Other detergents contain sodium as a water wetter.   Fairy Liquid 'did' contain Sodium. so when did it stop containing it.?

Shell V Power Nitro 99 ron minimum petrols secret ingredients (Detergents) include sodium,

often known as 'Common Salt'.

Fail to see what issues that will cause on the inside of the windscreen, he's not talking about washing the car with it. It's an old motorcycling fix to stop crash helmet visors from steaming up.

Fog-X.  Rain-X, Clear Screen, Glass Cleaner etc used inside is rather good, even tight Scottish People buy it.

(They possibly do not buy Fairy Liquid if looking for much cheapness, there are other good Washing up liquids, without the Brand Premium price.)

as is being sure the car is as dry as it can be inside when parking up very good .

Then the moisture absorbing packs.  which others say are cheap.

I like using a container of Sodium though. (Salt).

PS

In my salt container in the house,

my Granny and my Mum always used to put in a Dried Pee in to keep the Salt drier.

Old Wives Tales there.

Putting uncooked rice grains in a salt container achieves the same George :)

I totally forgot that.

Will own brand do OK,

So 'no name',   or do we need to buy expensive branded stuff?

Time to start a new thread on Off Topic i think.

'Old Wives Tales that really do work'.

This!

Whats the problem guys?

Fairy liquid does contain salt, yes.

However my windscreens glass. So?

Never had a problem using it on my visor, and its working well on the car windscreen too.

"Fairy" has a lot to answer to, can be a bone of contention, or is it discontention ??

was used generations of folk for washing vehicles, I hold my hand up.

now only used in kitchen in my humble abode,

we digress, back to question.

if cabin is damp there will be moisture on glass etc.

Have you rubber mats on top of carpet? ifso will trap moisture.

Use air con on recirculating until warmed up, should time out if you forget.

Is air con working correctly?

Check that pollen filter is clean and not damp?. if is replace with carbon activated type.

Check/clean scuttle drain holes.

Check air con drain tube is clear.

Otaylor38,

Divers and Scuba divers etc have been spitting on their diving masks a googles for decades now,

as well as some using detergent (Squeezy)

Spitting was safer, because it had enough salt to stop the Glass misting,

but was unlikely to cause irritation to the eyes, or the seals of the glass. (not seals in the sea)

Obviously not many have enough spit for application to the inside of a vehicle.

(other salty fluids should no be used, that might require cleaning with more fluids.)

I'll get the family outside n we'll all spit on my windscreen n rub it in then? ;)

I'll stick to fairy i think mate haha.

never realised that scuba divers spit in there masks when down below, you learn something new every day, lol

?

When down below what?

Before putting the mask on,

and not in the water.

Given we're talking about scuba divers, i think he means below the water level :)

I've sneezed in a helmet before and that wasnt nice.

Maybe that helped its anti steaming up properties though ;)
