Late mk2 TDI VRS or mk3 TDI 150(se or elegance) ?

Featured Replies

I can vouch for the quality of the AWD, even if I'd like it even more with sportier suspensions and around 200 horses... :) but that's my taste only

My old MkI was 4x4, 150 petrol powered horses, and always put a smile on my face, especially pulling away from the lights in the wet! I loved that car and both the MkII Octy and MkII Superb that followed but unfortunately for me, being an early adopter of the MkIII having ordered with great excitement on launch weekend, hence only available at the time with 2WD, torsion beam and in my opinion what I now consider to be poorly tuned suspension which had not undergone sufficient pre-launch development, so I now find myself fighting SUK for replacement of components that I feel are not fit for purpose and I know have been revised at least twice since my car was built, but they don't want to know, no offer of good will, so that's the thanks I get for 13 years loyalty to the brand!

Dear Matt,

it's sadly the same attention to loyal Customers payed here by Skoda Italia, I fear.

If you do go for a Mk 3 Eleg, make sure it is a MY15, ie. August 2014 or later build as they get revised dampers and springs which were too firm/harsh on earlier builds, and avoid MY13 cars like the plague.

I'm sorry but not to take this off topic but I completely disagree with the quote "avoid MY13 cars like the plague".

How can one persons opinion mean that every MY13 car should be avoided. I appreciate that the writer of this quote has some issues with their car but they do not have any right to say that all MY13 cars should be avoided.

I have a late April/early May MY13 octavia and have had so far NO issues with it what so ever. It has sports suspension and Golus wheels and the ride is in my opinion fine (never had an occupant complain either). I have never had the booming either. The only issue I have had is with the dealer network, which are in my opinion, not very good.

The OP should in my opinion go and take a long test drive in both models of octavia and if it happens to be a MY13 octavia 3 then they should decide on their own merit if they think it is comfortable and suitable to their needs.

Sorry, but I needed to get that off my chest as its being bugging me since I read the comment!!!

Ok, I take it back that not all MY13 cars may be affected with poor ride quality, but again, I note your spec is different, as I have standard springs and as far as I am aware, the dampers are a different spec if you have sports suspension. At least we agree on one thing, the OP needs to take a very long test drive and bear in mind that if considering a MY13 car, so that only covers cars built before Wk22 so early June, and if it has standard suspension, I would be very careful to check ride quality. I recall there were also various press reports around launch that raised concerns over the ride quality, and as far as I am aware, there have been at least two revisions to damper specs, one for MY14 cars and a further revision for cars built after July 2014. I can advise that I do not suffer with the booming issue and apart from the crashy and harsh ride, I am otherwise very happy with my car, it is not as well built as my previous Superb II, but it has a great spec list compared to cars in similar price brackets, is very economical, and has so far proved 100% mechanically reliable. I would still buy another, but the lack of support from SUK with my complaint makes me feel like not staying with the brand any longer than I have to, and I have owned Skodas continually now since 2002, so it would be with great regret if I do not continue with the brand in future.
