rough idle on cold engine

Featured Replies

Sometime when car is started from cold the running is a bit rough, there is a noticeable vibration for a few secs, while engine is warmng up. If i increase the revs it starts to work smoothly but when revs go down to idle jerks slightly. This happens on cold engine. Have anyone noticed this with thier cars?

Not experienced this before on these cars but, if it's a diesel, it sounds like one of the heater plugs isn't pre-heating properly.

Mine's the petrol and can be a bit rough if it's cold, just come on, and is using some of the convenience bits like A/C and heated seats.

Add about 200 rpm on the accelerator and it purrs like a kitten, foot off again and it's a bit like a diesel.

Only really noticed it as the weather's got a lot colder over here. Pretty sure it was normal before - then again, it was only built in October.

Does this happen regardless of the ambient temperature or only on cold days?

I think it happens on cold days.

Moro. I used to have the 1,9PD. Even after 2 hours of engine block heating, the first minute of running still sounded like shaking a box of spanners. Ran ok though, no problems.

mine does this every morning until it gets to full temp, am i taxi driver most morning if having to stop people asking what's wrong with ur engine driver ??  had it into dealers 8 times skoda uk involved, There doing nothing about it

My 150 TDI sounds like a bag of spanners at regular idle....particularly from cold. Improves a bit once warn but its still not very refined at idle.

Its gotten noisier as its gotten more mileage under its belt..also doesnt feel quite as punchy as it did when it was new...bit more laggy at low revs and softer throttle response.

well finally maybe got to the bottom of rough idle after months of it. Driving along, car at full temp no probs. Then suddenly it cuts out, manage to park it up safely. wont start, calls skoda breakdown which take 2 hours to arrive.

He takes me into skoda dealership in Glasgow who inform me after looking at it. The HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP SEIZED  slicing off the timing belt tensioner and the engine is now done

It's because the engine is cold and the fuel is condensing on the cold cylinder walls, so can't burn cleanly or fully, giving the vibrations As the engine warms up the fuel burns fully so no vibration.

car just out of warranty 65,000 miles but 100% cost of new engine honoured by skoda uk big relief !! well done skoda
