Vrs gearbox oil?

Featured Replies

I've got a new gearbox to put in however I want to do a oil change before hand, I rung tps earlier and gave them my reg and they quoted £30 a litre considering I will need 3 litres I don't fancy paying that with christmas being right around the corner,

I've read that i need 75w80 or 75w90, is this the correct one from halfords?http://www.halfordscareers.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=255220&productId=924939&storeId=10001

There is a castrol one aswel but doesn't state its for vw

im pretty sure thats right if someone else can't help you out i'll check on the autodata in work tomorrow

Gearbox now too!!! Not having much luck are you :(

What's the score with your engine/running issues now?

Ref the oil go for the 75w80, mine had 75w90 in it when I bought it and the gearshift when cold was pretty stiff and notchy, changed to fully syth 75w80 and gearchange is the same cold or hot :)

Yeah it's 75w 80 and takes 2.3 litres

Well I've always had 5th gear whine since I got it and a local lad was selling a box with a lsd so I snapped it up :) you saying about notchy gear changing, Since the cold weathers come in ive really noticed mine being notchy!

Erm the engines still running bad :( I'm getting the head off during Christmas and getting it rechecked and skimmed see if it makes a difference, if not it'll be a new engine :D

My gearbox is awfully stiff and notchy when cold, I had a read of the paperwork and it had semi-synthetic oil put in when it was refurbed :(

I didn't think 75w 80 semi synth was £30 a litre!  :o

Buy yourself Fuchs Titan Sintofluid SAE 75W-80 from Opie oils, it meets the spec of the box and was recommended by several people on here a few years back. Roughly £10 a litre.
